Just thought I'd post some pics of my 75g I'm doing up. I built the stand this past weekend and will be working on the canopy this week. The stand still needs to be stained and painted inside but is mostly done. I'll have more pictures to come

Nice looking project. Keep the pics coming. What are you using for the base and corner trims? If you could describe how you made the doors that would be great. Nice bike too.

The base and corner trims are just oak trim pieces from Lowes or Menards and the doors I cheated and got prefabbed oak doors from Menards (only $15 each)

looks great. I am build my stand for my 45g Breeder and a canopy. Is that 1/4" oak that you used for the front and sides? What type of molding did you use for the doors and the stand that is what I want to do with mine but I cannot find that type?

The molding is some fluted oak door casings and some oak 90 degree peices i found at a menards. The Oak is probably about 1/4", It just oak ply $20 for a 4x8 sheet. The doors are bought prefabs. I don't have plans but basically it is a plywood sheet with a 2x4 ring sittin on top and on the bottom with 3 2x4's on each corner, 2 sit inbetween the top and bottom ring and the others run the full length between the plywood pieces. The top ring has doubled up 2x4's and everything is glued and screwed to the max.

I should have it stained by this weekend I'll post pics, I should have the canopy moulding done tonight

Here's a teaser for the canopy moldings, I have to finish them tonight (add side ones) Turns out getting them to split and open for the opening front door and still look good when closed is like a chinese mind puzzle

really nice... u mind listing the mateirals on the stand... I made a frame already.. but I don't know how to cover it up? what kind of wood did u use to for the covers? u got step by step on the process? how did u attach the cover to the frame? u nail them? screw em together? how...? how about the trims? how u do dat? how u attach em?

the oak ply (see above replies) is glued and then brad nailed to the frame then the ugly corners are covered with 90 degree oak trim pieces. Most of the trims are the same way, glued with wood glue then brad nailed.

I highly recommend the oak ply, it was the first time for me working with it and it cuts clean and takes stain great. If you were careful you could cut it nice and the corners would look pretty good without any trim boards.

what kind of wood did you use for the canopy? I am in the process of building one for my 75g, and i am having trouble finding the right size i need for the top lid.

The dreaded question ... $$$$$

Probably $250 in wood and $50 in hinges, glue and other misc junk.

The canopy is the same oak ply as the base is covered in except it covers the 1x2 pine hardwood frame. I made a previous 20g canopy and didn't do a frame and thin skin construction and it weighed a ton for only being a 20g canopy so a skin and frame was a must for this one. Basically the frame is the same size as the top of the tank about a 1/8" longer on each direction and the oak ply extends down past the tank trim.

I'll get some close ups of the joints and of how its built. I spent a lot of time staring at others homemade stands on RC and know how helpful it is to see it up close

Hey i am going to be building a canopy for my 75g tommorow! I woul dlove to see clos eup pics of the joint and detail peices so I can copy you!!
