785 Gallon Glass Reef Build in CT

Hi

I thinking about adding LPS. You see clarionensis nipping on LPS?

Not yet, but he has only been in the tank for 4 days. In fact he hasn't eaten anything yet including fish food. Any suggestions to get a large angel to start eating? There has been no aggression towards him from the other fish, I am hoping he is just taking his time getting used to his new environment. Part of the reason I changes some of the aquascape is to reset the territorial playing field.

I am optimistic that because Clarionensis only comes from Revillagigedo islands that have only a few species of coral, and that this specimen was in a FOWLR for 7 years, he will not have a taste for corals. However, I am concerned at this point that he hasn't eaten anything in 4 days since being introduced into the aquarium.

To embed the video's go into youtube and under your video is a share button with an arrow pointing to the right.

Inside that is Share... Embed.. Email....

Pick the Embed item and just copy and past that in here.

It will look like:

Code:
iframe width="853" height="480" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Sh4Gz7C2P1o?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen>/iframe>

I took off the < before the word iframe and the < before the /iframe otherwise it would not post it correctly here.

Here is one I clicked on share for one of your videos:

So after 11 days with the Clarion not eating, I made the decision to take her back to LFS. I have no idea why she wouldn't eat. I tried 3 types of Nori, LRS frenzy and chunky, Hikari krill, picsine mysis, formula 1 & 2 cubes, fresh clams, flakes and small and medium pellets, silverside and prawn.

To ease my dissapointment, I brought home a starry leopard wrasse, dragon pipefish, mandarin and a juvenile blueface

I'm on board with the new additions, especially the blueface. But I'm curious why you didn't put the clarion in a separate holding tank first to get it to eat and acclimate. Regardless, hopefully it will recover.

Honestly, I thought a large mature fish that came out of a huge tank it had been in for 7 years would do better going right into the display. None of my existing fish were aggressive towards the Clarion and my water parameters are fine, so I am not sure what the issue was. I am completely baffled by the situation, but I am happy I was able to catch Clarion without tearing the reef apart or stressing the fish too much. I am very hopeful that she starts eating again at LFS.

Amazing tank! How covered is the skull at this point? How is the temp with this snow storm we are having?

There is plenty of swimming room. The footprint of my tank is 40 square feet. Rock covers less than 1/2 of it. I would probably need to add another 60-100 lbs of sand though. I am leaning towards not adding it because of the increase in bio load and the potential to lose crabs and my only cleaner shrimp but every time I see it at LFS I want it. Haha

Very nice tank!! Most people don't have a 700+ freshwater and here you've got a 700+ reef!!!:inlove:

I did have some fluctuation on really cold days, but adding a 1000 watt heater directly to the tank has helped significantly. At one point it dipped under 70 degrees, but the temp is stable at 73-74 degrees now.

Unfortunately, the skull suffered a setback I think as a result of low alk or possibly the dip in temp.

I added a cheap and easy automatic water change system. Basically airline tubing used to drip for acclimation now drips down the drain and gets replaced with RO water. At feeding time, I add some salt to the sump if salinity drops below 1.025. Trying to calculate how many cups of salt per day to add to keep salinity stable. It might take a few weeks to dial it in. Definitely much easier than getting out the pump, shutting everything down, draining, mixing the salt and refilling.

Salt has been steady at 1.025 and I have added about 200 gallons of salt since I started the drip. This basic system is working very well and the tank is thriving.

Upgraded my skimmer to an ETSS 1400. It is using a vectra L1 to power the 2 downdraft tubes. Pushing about 2000 gph through it.

Well the vectra stopped working, but fortunately Kevin in the service department at ecotech is sending me out a replacement. Great customer service!
