7DUSTER3's 150g BUILD THREAD

Bryce
I want to see the RKE when it's set up
Your SSC is doing good.I will be in OC early friday morning to drop off my mom.

I got a couple of very bright neon leather for you, something nice to look at until your ready for your SSC back. It should thrive on your set up.I don't what's wrong with my tank I can't keep softies happy.

But all of the SPS and LPS are doing great.

Im going to play with my RKE tomorrow after i get home snowboarding, Lawrence sweet deal, i can't wait. The Achilles is doing good, hes still eating but showing a little bit of stress from my PBT. I know the Achilles is going to bully him around once he gets settled in. Im going to try garlic with mysis and brine combo tomorrow and see what that does. I have yet to see it eat pellets at my house. We shall see!!

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE!!

So it's been a while since i have updated anything. With the Holidays, work, family, and my gf, i've been pretty busy.

Anyways i have done a few things here and there. I got a few more pieces of equipment

RKE w/net 4 pc4s
SRO xp 30001 skimmer
Eheim 250w heater
63 lbs of large rock from Lawrence

Also made a big attempt to ease my water changes, I bought a rubbermaid outdoor storage shed and put my ro/di unit and 2 55 gallon drums into it. I didn't think they would be so expensive but after 240 bucks later i have a nice storage area for my water making.

Its still far from where i want it to be but its getting there.

I am still messing around with my skimmer. I got it from my gf for xmas. It was from Tom and i was hoping for a little more instruction with the skimmer. It came to me out of the box. I am thinking that just a single 250w heater will do for now with my halides and the heat monster mag 12 running i should be able to keep a constant cozy temp for my livestock.

Lookin good. I recently reworked my water containers, and am extremely happy with how they turned out. You should get some uniseals, and plumb the two together for easier mixing capabilities. Even plumbing outlets low on the container so you can use gravity to feed the water rather than a pump. A pump will only be needed for recirculating sw.

Tank/Sump/Mixing station = Great Work:D

thanks, i have reworked the plumbing under the stand again. this time its all one color from savko dot com. It looks good, i'll have more pics for it later. thanks for the complements. I really love the storage as well. It fits perfect and was easy to assemble.

I just looked at some uniseals as i never thought of it before, That idea sounds great, but im unsure how i would like it. The idea was to have 1 be for salt and 1 be for fresh.

I just hit up Daniel for a mag 9 i guess if i did it this way i wouldn't need it. Even if i did the uniseals i could still gravity feed them and have 2 separate ones or turn them towards each other and have 1 big drum. GOOD IDEA anyways. I'm going to buy 2 of them from BRS.

I'm about 38g into my drum with RO water so it'll have to be after its emptied.

You will need three uniseals total. Two for your SW tank, and 1 for your RO tank.

I put one in the top of my SW tank, and one in the bottom of the SW tank. This will allow you to pump water from the bottom to the top for mixing.

Tee off the bottom line and connect that to the bottom of your RO tank with the pump in the middle. So basically with a few valves you can drain water from either tank via gravity, Mix your saltwater, or pump fresh RO into your SW mix tank.

I have the pump leading to a manifold so I can hook a hose to it, and pump straight into the display tank.

Water changes used to take 45+mins, now I can do about 45g in 20mins or less.

PM me if you have questions. Good Luck, and make sure you use the proper hole-saw size for your uniseals.

I got the drums from my dads work. They sell the same ones on eBay for like 45 bucks. These are food grade. The only problem is that they don't have a lid. With a little cutting I made them work!!

Thanks Jorge. I made it myself after the particle board incident happened. It is much better then what lee mar gave me!!

UPDATES!!!

So some of you know my beloved first Achilles tang has passed away :( I have also lost in my time since my Yellow Goby. :( :( I lost the tang in a hard fought battle with ICH. My now deceased powder brown fought with the Achilles till the Achilles finally couldn't fight any longer then the powder brown jumped ship and committed suicide shortly after.

It was a disaster. But anyways i now have a new achilles with no one but the clown tang to bother it. It is ich free in the new tank and eating so cross your fingers it makes it this time. They all got copper in qt so i hope this keeps it all away forever! The clown is tang and the royal gramma are the only ones still in qt so my achilles can breathe free for a while.

I have a bunch of pictures of the final rock work, fish added to the system and i think i can update my fish/equipment list as well.

My new fish list will include:

Achilles tang (Thanks Shawn)--- check
Blonde naso tang
Kole tang (Thanks Shawn)--- check
Clown tang ---check
Mated pair of GMC --- check
Pair of snowflakes --- check
Mystery wrasse --- check
Yellow corris wrasse --- check
Royal Gramma --- check
Schooling fish (maybe more yellow coris wrasse or christmas wrasse)

As far as coral goes, i want it to be colorful, with lots of movement, so im thinking mixed reef focusing on a few colorful lps, lots of zoas, and a bunch of sps.

Equipment is still in the works as well and will check these off when time and money permits. I still need to find supplemental lighting. I have 2 250w halides with lumenarc reflectors, but am debating on whether i want VHO T5 or LED as actinics and moonlights. 4 t5s i think would be pricey but could i get away with 48inch VHOs to supplement? I know i can do LEDS but dont know if it would be worth the cost just for supplemental light.

Still looking for:

2 Tunze 6055
1 Tunze Wavebox

and now for some pics!!!

This is the screen i made using BRS screening and an old window frame from my house that just so happened to be 48x30 the EXACT same size as my tank!

And my new achilles getting dripped the day i got him.

I have 70 lbs of marco rock in there about 20 lbs of shelf rock and close to 100 lbs of misc mostly fiji.
I cant wait for the rock to color up as its an eye sore.

I plan to have a zoa garden on the left side where the big flat piece is with something expensive in the middle to show it off. Maybe my SSC acro.

More to come, ENJOY
