7DUSTER3's 150g BUILD THREAD

Thanks, i was actually inspired by yours and liz's. Daniel gave me the idea to show something off that would grow taller and branch in the middle. I have a lot of stuff still to complete and my halides are on a different tank with all of my corals. I need to finish my lights so i can start putting some coral into the big tank. I still have my 10g frag tank that im willing to get rid of. maybe someone wants to trade some higher end zoas for it to fill my rock.

Where is a good place to buy a package deal CUC?
 
Looks great Bryce. The coraline will come. My stark white Marco rocks were completely covered in coraline algae after about 6 months so be patient it will happen.

I remember when I was a newb I would dose bottles of Purple Up... its amazing what you learn... I think we all have had this realization that if cal alk and mag are stable it will grow on its own.

Sucks about the Achiles, so your only fish in the 150 is the new one? So those others are in QT or in your other display tank?

Your aquasape looks great, nice use of space.

You need some macro in that sump, let me know if you want some if your in my area.
 
Thanks guys. Yea I've had a bottle or 2 of purple up in my day haha. As for fish everything was previously in qt for almost a month in copper minus the Achilles and the kole tang. The Achilles was getting picked on by my clown tang so he went in premature to stop the fighting. I started to qt the kole but the same thing happened so I threw it in the 150 as well. Today I started to pull others out and into the main display. Everything is in accept for the clown tang (the boss of my old tank which is now my qt) and my aggressive royal gramma. Everyone else is swimming, eating and getting along perfectly in my new system.

As far as the rocks go I wanted to go simple but it didn't look good with 30 inches deep so I used all my rocks to create caves tunnels and what not. We will see how it looks when I fill it with coral.
 
Cody thanks for the offer Ill have totakebyiu up on it. The Achilles and the clown love ogo so I want to see if I can grow it in my tank.
 
Let the Achilles come to his own pretty soon he will be the boss of the tank regardless of his size!
 
Looks good Bryce!! The storage is cool, where did you get it from? do they come it bigger size, like holding 3 drums instead?

As far as the rubbermaid shed goes, i bought it from Home Depot for $239. I believe they have one that is 49x70x46 (mine is 51x24x42) so you probably could get 3 if not 4 for sure in there. Its pretty sweet, i keep my ro unit in there and just run tubing for quick and easy water changes.

I just started to draw up my canopy. I still cant decide on what kind of lighting i want. Is anyone out there still using VHO's for actinics? Also if i did go with 2 48 inch VHOs would it be enough for supplemental lighting? My other option would be 4 t5s. I don't think i could get enough leds to span across my tank to make it worth while and pocketbook friendly. Am i wrong?
 
I know its blue but i need lighting so that i dont have to have my halides on for 8 hours a day. Something i can simulate dawn and dusk with as well. I love the halides i know they will work great but i need more to keep the coral alive without the 500w halides running 24/7
 
Well day 2 of everything looking happy to be in a new home. I'm in the process of searching for a smaller blue tang, a blonde naso and maybe a yellow if I can get away with it.
 
So i think im going to go with 4 retro fit t5's to complement my 250w halides. Does anyone out there have 4 48inch t5 retro fit kits laying around?

Also what would be the best bulb combo for an all actinic look?
 
Alright Update time!!!

I got my 4 bulb t5 fixtures, Still working out what bulbs i want to go with for actinics.

All of my fish are now in the main tank, ich free hopefully! I qt most of them for a month we shall see how that goes. Also started to put coral into my system, just zoas for now. Nothing crazy until my canopy is made. Which brings me to my next huge update of the actual canopy. It is being worked on as we speak. I need to sand and paint it then hang my lights from it.

My Achilles tang is now eating a mix diet of FROZEN cube food!!!!!:dance::dance::dance::dance: and pellets along with nori and ogo. No more live brine for me!!

Pics will come shortly after school and lunch today hopefully.
 
I was about to ask you hows the Achilles is doing....good to hear he's eating well.

Mine just started eating brine and mysis over the weekend and formula one. :) yey I'm sure pellets soon to follow..
 
Thank you! 7DUSTER3 LOVES YOU!! i want a yellow and a blue tang to go along with it but i think im going to hold off on the yellow because i don't want to stress the Achilles out.
 
Oh good, I'm glad that yours is eating as well and hasn't kicked the bucket yet. I was super skeptical of it at first but am now happy. For whatever reason mine wont eat Formula 2 just yet. Im going to keep trying. I haven't tried the more meaty formula 1. Maybe that will be next on my list.
