8 foot mixed reef flow

My 96x24x25 peninsula reef is being built. I have 3 mp40qd currently and return pump flow around 1500 gph. Looking to do a mixed reef. I'm thinking for optimal aesthetics 2 mps on either end of return side and one Mp on the opposite end. I think I might need to trade the one Mp40 for and mp60 or one of these new gyre things. Looking for tips and suggestions. Thank you ahead of time.

I would be curious about this as well- I'm working on an 8-foot 320 gallon peninsula reef. I have the equipment to build it with a Hammerhead return pump connected to an Oceans Motions wave maker with 2 returns at the end of the tank, 2 in the middle, and a Tunze Wave Box at the overflow end. I could supplement with MP40s or 60s or Gyre pumps if necessary. akopley, I will be watching this thread with interest on your progress as I'm so sloooooooooowwwww at renovating my basement and building my aquarium; you will surely beat me and I will be looking for inspiration!

I will likely start an official build thread for the tank when it arrives next month. I am typically pretty quick on these things, so hopefully i can make the mistakes and you can learn from them.

Which Gyre are you rocking? This is what I am thinking as well, but will likely see how things go with the 3 MP40s and return before i make moves.

I'm thinking I can keep my sps on the side with return and dual Mp40's and softies lbs on the side with the single Mp40. If that isn't enough I'll sell Mp40 for gyre or mp60

UPDATE: I now have 3 MP40QD pumps, maxspect 250 gyre and an estimated 1,000 -1,500 gph return. Being that this tank is 8 feet long can I get away with putting all the pumps on the far right side where the overflow and return is? This will be a peninsula tank and would look the best if the pumps weren't on the left side at all. I could do the gyre vertical on one side with 3 mp40s on the other or 2 mp40s on one side of overflow, one on the other and the gyre attached to the front of the overflow horizontal. I could also possibly sell an mp40, add another gyre and have both a gyre and mp40 on each side of the overflow operating in a push pull method. I don't really know. Give me some ideas people!

Is your peninsula going to have a canopy?

If so I would consider running your returns over the top of the tank to the far end. That way you'll have flow at that end. If that isn't an option I think you have two other options:
1. get some killer pumps and attempt to create a gyre in your tank. I think you'd want a couple MP60s to do that.
2. get a few of those tunze rocks to hide the pumps and place a few of those in the far end of the aquarium.

My tank is a 8'x4'x24" tall peninsula. Aside from my return and closed loop which together are producing in excess of 6000GPH, I have 3 Tunze's (2x 6205 & 1x 6105) all att one end of the tank pointing down the 8' length and the flow 8' from them is insane and actually produces a 1.5" rise and fall at the other end of the tank when the pumps are in pulse mode. Now my returns enter through a pair of sea swirls at the opposite end from the Tunze's but my point is that with proper setup, you can get great flow 8' away from the pump. The Tunze's produce wider flow than the vortechs and if I am not mistaken, the 6205's produce more flow as well. Still, I think what you want to do is achievable without adding the Gyre at the opposite end. You just might need to add an additional MP40 or two. That or upgrade to a pair of MP60's and keep your MP40's in the mix.
