8 ft tank for Tang - what would be min width and height

Hypothetically, if I had a 8ft tank for tangs mainly, what would be the minimum height and width practical so as to have low water volume at the same time, tangs would be comfortable swimming around. Also live rock used won't be larger pieces width wise. Ideally I would like a 18" height as it would be easy to clean etc. Does someone has done it before?

How wide is your tank front to back?

18 inches.

If i had my way it would be much deeper. I got the tank from CL for a steal, so i cant complain, and it is a huge step up from my 55g, but depth is really where its at from a viewing perspective IMO. deep tanks feel much more natural.

Obviously you have to build within your restrictions, but personally, my next display will have much more depth.

Love the current height and the width, hate the depth. Also keep in mind, adding two more feet of length to an 18 inch depth is going to make it even rougher on your aquascaping.

My personal opinion if i was building an 8 foot display?-----

Height- I would say don't go lower than 18 inches as an 8 foot display that is shorter than 18 inches is probably getting to the point where it would feel pretty unbalanced from a visual perspective.

Depth- go as deep as your restrictions allow.

To the original question, 18" tall and 18" deep should be fine for most Tangs. Otherwise, I guess I'm the exception in that I really don't like short tanks. My 265 is 30" tall and I really like it - other than needing to use tools to reach the bottom back. Ideally it'd be deeper, front to back; so, next time.

8' x 18" tall is going to just look weird IMO. Mine is 24" tall, and I still think it looks "short", and wish I went 30".

I have a 24 inch and a 30 inch. The 30 inch looks better, the 24 inch is much easier to work with.
