8 line flasher wrasse

I don't know about you guys but I don't buy the wrasses cause they are "cool" I buy them because of their colors and being very active fish with little aggression.

Prices went up when they stopped bringing them in, just like the Purple tangs, Chevron tangs, and more. They used to be dirt cheap and abundant, but once they quit coming in, prices shot up for the few that do show up.

If I only bought stuff that other people thought was cool, I'd have some really rare, and really fugly fish :wildone:

Hey, where was the 8-line club before? I posted here about getting one from NYA about a year ago and heard only crickets.

Hope you guys enjoy them! Mine didn't last long due to overly-aggressive Pink Margin but it's a beautiful fish and tempted to try out another one

LiveAquaria reloaded this morning with some more 8-lines and quickly sold out, this time with with a price tag of $129.99. Got mine while the getting was good ;)

still at work so I dont have time for a long post but anyway.....

shipment arrived and I snuck out of work for an hour to acclimate the new arrival and take a quick phone pic. I'll get better ones tonight. The fish looks good and he's a good size (probabaly a bit shy of 3 inches) i'm always reluctant to get non wysiwyg fish but i'm definatly happy with this one.

now back to work.

Ah!!!! How do I keep missing these guys!!! Where are they showing up? In the regular reef-safe wrasse section or the "Collector's Corner?" I'm sure there will be some on DD, but probably at a premium, and I'm sure they'll go fast.

Reef safe wrasse secton. They are listed now at $129.99.

From what I have seen lately these rare wrasses come in at the same time, places like LA and Pacific Island I know QT and that may be why they have a better survival rate than NYA, although I have no knowledge or clue how NYA does business so its unfair for me to assume. What I do know is how the other 2 do bisiness and I get a lot from PIA for my store and always look great and healthy and hopefully some of these beauties will make it my way for my home collection :)

Keep an eye on Pacific Island Aquatics as they should be listing some soon. LA still has them available but the description changed from "male" to "small".

Is Pacific Island Aquatics a retailer or a wholesaler?

I wasn't accusing anyone of buying them because they are cool, but they certianly have become more cool and popular in the hobby, which has caused an artificial inflation of the retail price.

The Red Sea thing is weird. Everything was super expensive in the 90's, then they started importing more, and prices started dropping a lot in the 2000's ,then, BOOM! Everything jumped way up.

Purple tangs were $150 sm, then by 2001 you could get them for $75, now they are back up near $200. Retail pricing wise.

What disappointed me with flashers, was they never looked as good as the super male in flashing mode pics you always see.

I like flashers and faries, had many of them, including some of the first pairs of Debelus that came into the hobby years ago.

I much rather see these get popular, become cool, and attract the attention they deserve, as apposed to the CULLS, or I mean Designer, Clownfish that are bringing rediculous money.

Now if we could just start breeding some of these wrasses, and take the burden off the wildstocks, that would be something!

Breeding wrasses would be awesome. I know that LADD has a spawning pair of Johnsoni right now.

PIA is a retailer and a sponsor of RC.
