Damn a black tang. That fish doesn't warrant the price tag though

Let's go for a package deal - the conspic; the wrought iron butterfly; and the black tang. That would make for an impressive tank.
What is it about the black tang that makes them so expensive?
Samething that makes all the other fish in the hobby so expensive.
Rarity, availability or survival rate.
If its rare, its worth more.
If its not commonly available, once it is people are willing to pay a lot for it.
It it has a poor survival rate, and for example only 1 out of 20 imported make it, then the company will have to sell it for more since they lost so many.
Did you know the Gem tang is not rare AT ALL in some parts of africa?
Yes, were talking GEM TANG! In some areas you could put on a snorkel and literally be surrounded by them.
What makes them so expensive is that they are extremely hard to obtain a license/permit to collect them and import them.
There's normally a specific reason though. I understand that some things just get ran up because of hype but most of the time theres a specific reason for a paticular fish. Just curious.

Oh.
Personally I only like the black tang as a juvenile. Once it grows that line at the top of its body it get's a little unattractive, although is it just me or does this specific one seem to have like a Neon blue coloring on it?
$900 fish, put up a 1min video of it eating.
You know they are down here on the Kwazulu Natal coast. Spearfishermen and divers see them all the time. Its finding a small juvenile and catching it for the tank thats the difficult part.Where is the gem tang place ?
Divers Den = fish eating/healthy/perfect.
They keep some of their fish for months before putting them up for sale to insure that they are healthy and well acclimated to aquarium life. That is why their (sometimes) higher price is justified.
