90 g update

well i gave up on my old camera and got a new polaroid i532 5.0 megapixel cam
the cam takes great pics
but seeing as it is a 5 mp the size of the pics are way too big for uploading to the rc forum
so i tried to get it uploaded to photobucket but somehow screwed up
the username i selected was taken - so i made a new one
but when i tried to put in my email address
it said it was taken so i dont know the password of the account of the last time i uploaded a pic (been a LONG time)
so i cant post a pic till i sort this out

You should be able to change the settings on the camera to take a smaller picture. You could also open the large picture in MS Paint and then go to Image>Sketch/Skew and change the horizontal and vertical setting to 30% and then do a 'Save As'. That should make it small enought to upload. If not, open it again and save it as 80% until it is small enough.

how does i look?

I don't know, I only see pictures of your tank in your gallery :)

The water looks as though it is full of dissolved organics(cloudy). That is a good thing for any LPS species. I would say give a frag of one head a try just to see and if it survives add a colony. If the xenia is doing well by means of it is growing nearly out of control you should be able to keep a frogspawn. I have a tank that has nothing but xenia and frogspawn that is thriving. BTW it also lacks a skimmer!

thanks,

Rick

i have an hv1 (excalibur) in the sump
also i am having cyno growing in the display
if you look in my galleryi have 2 pics of my sump
it looks as if the chaeto and calupera is either dying or maybee going sexual
most of the racemosa is somewhat translucent
some of the taxifola is the same way
i see some red bunches that look somewhat like red racemosa
the pics arent the best quality
but if you want a better pic tell me your email and i will send you the pic (have a 5 mp digital polaroid)
i dont know if the fuge light isnt right
it is a daylight cf by loa (6500 k)and 25 w
could this be too much light or not enough
how bout somer advice on this
seeing that this is my 1st sump

well my calupera is looking like it is dying off
i originally had it just floating
then after some advice from ivan at the bridgeville pet supplys plus i weighted it down to try to gfet it to attach (grow holfasts -roots)
that was a week ago and the calupera still looks lik its dying off
but my nitrite reading is 0 ppm and nitrate is 10 ppm
any thoughts on this?

How old are the test kits you are using? They may be giving you a false reading. I personally light my fuge 24/7 to keep it really growing. I am not sure why it would be dying but if it really looks nasty remove it before it starts to foul the water. It may just be a bad batch of macro, or it didn't take the acclimation well.

thanks,

rick

the test kits were bought about a month ago
they are the 5 in one test strips
i know that people will say that the test srips are worthless
but it is all i can use rught now

the fuge is lit 24/6 (one night a week it is off for cleaning )

well im still trying to get rid of that damned cyno (looks awful)
so i was on the advanced topics forum and came a cross a post describing acclimating mollies to help with algae control
so i thought "what the heck i'l try the mollies"
i know someone here i going to say its my water filtration , phosphates ,lack of carbon, etc
but its getting boring seeing only 2 fish and 2 small frags in the tank
i'm acclimating them now (drip method --- 1 drop in - 1 drop out)
for about 3 hrs

I acclimated mine in like 15 mins. :) I did it fairly quick, and last time I bought mollies for saltwater I just threw them in and they made it. They really are durable.

thanks,

Rick

your setup is brand new... the cyano will come and go over the next few months, as will other types of algea. You just need to take your time (even if it is boring) and let the tank mature. You will see many different types of life wax and wane over the next 6 months.

I have had only a 50% success rate drip acclimating them for 5 hours. I am not sure they died from the switch to SW or if they swam into an anemone or something else.
