90 Gal reef for the girls.

Well the auto floor mat didn't pan out as well as I thought it would. They were pretty thin and the thickest ones were $25 or more. Scott had suggested an anti fatigue mat at home depot for $20. so I went to look at those and it was 3' X 3' X 1/2 thick and not to hard at all. I bought that and cut the pieces I needed and it took away all the noise the pumps were making siting on the bare sub floor. Now I have 7 Sq Ft. of the mat left, so Scott you mentioned buying one for yourself now you don't have to. I'll bring it down to the store the next time I'm in.

Scott also pulled out a couple of 2 inch bulk head fittings from his own tanks for me, what a guy, so I was able to get the sump drilled and the bulk heads in.

I found some scrap pieces of PVC plate laying around the shop and took a stab at making a couple of filter sock holders. I figure the drain from the 90 will flow into one and the drain from the 125 will flow into the other one. I put a elbow to direct overflow if the socks become to clogged before changing. I'll try and make a bracket to hold both of them together 9 inches apart on center and mount to the sump if the boss turns his back anytime soon.

Well the boss blinked today and I hacked out a frame and hanger assembly real quick to connect the 2 filter sock plates. It's all made out of clear and gray PVC scraps laying around the shop so the fittings glued in real nice.

That should work, but I wish you could have found the time to make that bracket look like a fish instead of an "m" ;)

Looks good, your gonna love those huge socks, well atleast until some Jacka$$ from oklahoma or something stops by our forum and tells you "nice nitrate factory you got there"

Tim, that is nice. You should make a few more and offer them for sale. Put me first in line. Did you make a bracket for the ATO, as well?
BTW, thanks for the mat. I haven't used it yet, but I'm certain it will be much better than the mousepad.

Thanks, The ATO bracket will be next, I still need to pull it out of the box to see what I have to work with. I'd love to have the time to make a bunch of stuff but's it's scary trying to sneak stuff in for myself working for a commie bastard.

I noticed something tonight when I went to screw a fitting into the Hammerhead. There was a very sharp jagged lip at the base of the threads in the input side of the housing.

It looked to me like it was a solid mold wall to provide stability to the part when they molded it, then they just blasted a drill through it without giving any attention to the edge it created.

I started to wonder if this would cause micro bubbles to form (cavitate) as the water tears across this edge.
I wasn't going to take any chances and decided to cut out the left over mold ring with a sharp knife.

I also noticed a bunch of sharp edges and glue flashing on the impeller.

I scraped these off also and rounded over the edges. Hopefully this will help eliminate any micro bubbles forming from inside the pump

The M stands for Marvelous, Magnificent, or Mine.:D

I never seen that be for im going to look and see if the one im geting will have it to thanx for showing that i take it as a heads up.

sweet job Tim, I can't wait to see what you do for the plumbing, I'm sure it will be a work of art.

I think it's cool taking the ridges off the plastic casting, that's something that would be beneficial I'm sure, but with production costs could never be done by the manufacturing company.

Anyway, I bet you looked at that thing and thought "damn I could build this" if I didn't work for the man................You should just go out and buy a couple million dollars worth of equipment and start building your own stuff, then we could all buy from you.

I took apart the dart this morning to check on the condition of the impeller. My god was it nasty. I can't believe they ship these like this.

I removed all the sharp edges on the impeller and the housing and put it back together.

I would like to see a micro bubble test done between a pump that has not had the sharp edges removed and one that has.

good call, I will have to take my hammers apart when I get a chance and clean them up to see. I think you are maybe the first person i know of to have a modded reeflo :)

Guess I'll have to be my own guinea pig, then. I was thinking maybe a 30 gallon can filled with vinegar water with pvc going thru the lid for in/out. It should be pretty simple.

Russ stopped by today to get a couple bulkheads from me and brought a hole saw set so I could get the holes cut in the shelf.

My idea for the day was to get the plumbing done and the sumps switched around again. I got to looking at the ceiling and thought it would be smart to cut the hole in the ceiling first as it may be quite messy. Man I'm glad I made that decision as it was messy as He%#.

So here is the hole in the ceiling downstairs.

Here's is the plumbing that will go through the ceiling.

Here's how they looked from downstairs. I will build a box around the fittings to conceal the hole in the ceiling. I may use some expanding foam to plug up the gaps but I want to run the electrical cords for the lights through the floor also so I may not.

Tim, you've got a nice Class A setup there. You've know when someone has a DIY project going on when you run into them in Lowes. Nice Job.

Very nice Tim, I'm just glad to see somebody else ruining a perfectly good house for the sake of plumbing a tank properly ;)
Look's like it will be all running again soon.
Have you got the new sump up and running and the temp. sump disconnected??
