90 gallon canopy question

So I built my own canopy for my 90 gallon. I am a little concerned about the weight of the canopy. I called marineland and their canopy weighs 49lbs. My canopy sits on top of the aquarium and contacts the entire rim. It weights ~75lbs. Has anyone had any experience with this? Any advice?

I think you're fine. First the weight is transferred straight down through the glass which is extremely strong. Second, some quick math suggests the weight is distributed at around .6 pounds per inch. Which may as well be a tall shot glass full of vodka (for carbon dosing I think) sitting on a one inch section of the rim, so to speak.

Assuming a traditional 90 gallon tank... Perimeter is 48+48+17+17 = 130 linear inches. 75 lbs. divided by 130 inches is .58 lbs per inch.

Makes enough sense for me. Its been sitting on the empty tank now for a week..so I think it will be ok too. Thank you very much.

the glass on tanks are a lot stronger than you think. Ive seen people lay on the bigger tanks and they stay perfectly fine, although i dont recommend that. lol
