90 Gallon Custom Tank... Build Thread!

Hey sorry about the lack of participation here. Many of my friends have had build threads in the Large Tank Forum, and I realized they have thier way they want to design things, and I need to keep my mouth shut as its "your" tank.

I told Mark a while back when I build the cube tank I am planning (48 x 48 x 24), there will be one post..........MINE telling YOU how I did it.

Hence, I have been really only reading these build threads watching how your designs unfold, rarely do I comment on them.

Sorry it has been overshadowed, so far so good, keep it up!!!

I realize that's it and I do it also lol

Jim:
I NEVER knew that...
I may shoot a PM your way to get some Ball Valves for this project.

So the only reason people really use Sch. 80 on tank this size is for the Grey Color?

I don't think strength will be an issue with sch. 40 because today I got to remove a submerged well pump... and experienced the strength. 40 feet of pipe with 10 lbs on the end. It was flexing too much so we sent it over the shed. Realize that all 40 feet are full of water. About 5 feet from the pump the whole pipe and box assembly falls off the shed and it snaps, At the coupler.

Catching a 20 pound well pump by wet slippery wire as it slides down into a pit of darkness... No one should experience that

Yeah, the added thickness does not increase the inner diameter of the fittings and OD of the pipe.

Sched 80 is for real deal pressure applications. There is nothing on our tanks that would require sched 80. I use to lay sched 80 when I was building concrete plants. We were plumbing some serious stuff then (like 4 story tall chillers), so sched 80 was a must (county regulation).

Because sched 80 is stronger by build, with larger sizes you don't get as much splitting when you have to screw in threaded style fittings.

I would only use sched 80 fittings on the valves, unions and bulkheads. If I had the dough, I'd run all sched 80 just for the looks, but its not needed in this hobby.

Doahh looks like your question was answered, good to see! I just did a Savko order and was very pleased. Bulk reef is also very nice i have carbon coming from them on tuesday:). I will be using all sch 40. but painting it all black with krylon fushion but the flex PVC i learned cannot successfully be painted it will stay stickey forever. SO i got 15' from Savko

I don't have a whole lot to add other than that I think your build is coming along really well!! I love the 90 size and it's what I'm setting up currently!! It's looking awesome and keep up the good work!

Anyone know a Steel Supplier within a few miles of Loomis? I have some people that could help me weld and cut it I just need to supply the steel.

Yep, there are two unions and one ball valve, all schedule 80. Plumbing is a very underated cost in tank builds.

I don't know of any other way to put it... The cost of plumbing is ALWAYS under budgeted...

Your build is going along really well... Like Jim said sch 8o is only for looks. Keep up the good work.

Nope... No new pics. Havent had time to do anything but think about this. Hopefully Next monday/tuesday I will be able to weld the stand

Doahh

Ooh I have a question...
Where do you get those really easy to use Ball Valves? Like these ones that Jim_S uses (They appear to be Schedule 40)

i think i saw some a lowes 2 day ago when i was shopping for plumbing material..

Augh!
One store closes at 2:00 We got there ate 2:12
Blue Collar was closed for Labor Day weekend...
So I went back to the shop and Brazed, Gas Welded, and Arc Welded

Looks like an awesome project. I am doing a 90g build myself and can not figure out what size sump to use. I have a 30 long, from the guy I bought the tank from, but it seems like it takes up too much room to be 30g. I want to do 55 but it would be tough to fit that sucker in there.
