About 3 weeks ago or so I moved my tank to it's new home.
I had limited time between working 7 days a week and trying to be a father and husband.
So on a Friday night with a friends help, we began to move my tank to my new home. Everything went pretty smoothly and it was well planned.
We started around 8pm and everything was at the new house by 12am. It took an additional 3 hours for me to make sure everything was setup and functioning.
Apparently, everything did not go as smoothly as planned. Something died that night which caused a domino effect the following 12 hours.
saru mo ki kara ochiru = even monkeys fall from a tree
I had to work at 6am the next day and when I got up, the water looked a bit cloudy, but that was kind of expected.
By the time I got home at 8pm or so, the stench from the rotting carcasses in my tank was rancid.
All of my fish, SPS, one very large giant clam and some of my zoas were dead. I tried in vain to fix the problem, it just got worse.
By the time I pulled out the remaining zoa colonies, most of them were dead or dying.
Fortunately, I have a friend that owns a pet store and he's been holding my remaining zoas. He's slowly nursing them back to health.
In total I lost about 75% of my colonies and the ones that survived have only 5 to 20% of their original mass. Yet they are trying to make a comeback.
My tank has finally stabilized and it's a good thing too.
One of our members made an extremely generous act and sent me a package of zoas and not only zoas, but some of the nicest zoas I have ever seen!
Plus, Barry from Kahuna corals shipped them. None better, imo.
Thanks mfinn.
Anyway, I have begun the process of rebuilding, again. Right, this isn't the first time I crashed a reef tank.
Insanity = doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
Thanks for letting me rant.
