900 Gallon Reef Project

You have an amazing set up. With knowledge and patience your tank will mature into an amazing Reef !! Find a good local club.

Updates, we got updates.

Installed 3 x 250w HQI halides for better coloration, using Giesemann Megachrome 20k bulbs.

Installed an automated pellet and liquid dosing feeder.

Cabinet work is done.

NP pellet reactor was taken offline and replaced with a GFO reactor. No more Alk burn

Everything seems to have stabilized and I am finally getting some bounce back from a majority of my corals. I am still not getting polyp extension from my montis but that could be due to my flame angels picking.

I took a mini fridge and drilled a 2 holes in it. The pump then pulls cyclopeeze and phytoplan/zooplan from the container and feeds the tank for 1 minute 10 times per day:

Any more info on your fridge-feeder? Why two tubes? Do you feed right into the DT? Or into the Sump near the return pump?

How long does one container last for, before going bad?

How many ml do you pump at a time over the 1 minute?

Nice.
What kind of CA reactor is that?

I love the Cabinetry and how some doors pop out and others swing open. (all mine swing open and its a real pain to have to dodge around the doors to just go over a little bit.

I have 1 line that's an air pump that kicks on a minute before the feed pump comes on. This gets the cyclopeeze off the bottom and moving. I feed into the sump near the main pump intake, nothing gets left behind. The container is about 2 quarts and I get about 4-5 days out of it. I am getting a bigger container shortly that should be about 3 gallons and should last a few weeks. I am feeding about 50 ml at a shot.

I ruined the first $130 fridge I bought because we decided to drill into the side of the unit and hit a tiny refrigerant line. We laughed pretty hard when we heard this hissing sound emanating from the unit. So we decided to conduct some exploratory surgery on the busted unit to figure out where it was safe to drill.

The reactor is an over sized Marine Technical Concepts Procal-D. I was able to secure the first one they built. Its been running extremely well, it has some great design features. Plus with me living so close to them, I can always bring it in to their shop for a tune up.

i love the feeder! i bet the critters do too.

Carl

With my Anthias and the Wrasses constant feeding throughout the day is mandatory. Also my corals seem to appreciate it too! The only downside is having to change my GFO much more often and I really have to keep up on my water changes. After 6 months of head scratching, I am happy that the tank finally seems to have turned a corner.

Glad I remembered to check if you had responded. I was planning on doing this myself, and was going to drill through the side !

Hahaha

Great idea on the air pump too.
