9002 noise

I have a 9002 that is getting very noisy. I took it apart and cleaned the pump a few days ago,That hepled for about one day, and then it started again.
It sounds like a bunch of marbles rolling around in a box. The pump looks good, impellar does not appear damaged or scored. It is all pump noise and not air noise.
got any clues as to what might be my problem???

Check for play in the impeller on the magnet. Are you sure it is pump noise? Does the pump make the same noise when run outside the skimmer?

I havent tried to run the pump out of the skimmer. But yes, it is pump noise for sure. The impellar looks good and I see no "slop" in it.
I can't figure it out at all.

Try running it outside of the skimmer. Double check that the stainless steel shaft is not bent or loose. You are welcome to send it in and if I can't fix it I will replace it.

Ok, I took the pump out of the skimmer and ran it...very quiet.
Now I am at a loss as to why it does this. Any Ideas on how to quiet the skimmer now??

My suspicion is that the pump is not installed correctly. The bottom cover should not touch the pump. The venturi jet goes through a hole in a baffle plate and it should insert in so that the pump is all the way in the skimmer, maybe 1or 2mm below the edge of the skimmer body. The cord wraps around threads through a cable support and out of the rubber safety grommet. If the pump was not fully seated I could imagine it could rattle against the bottom plate. It could also be air in the pump. It is generally a good practice to start the skimmer with the venturi adjustment screw completely closed and then open the screw after the pump is running, this prevents it from sucking in air bubbles on start up.

thanks for your responses. I will look in to the items you suggested and get back with you in a few days. The starting the pump with the screw closed is a new one for me.....never thought of that.
