9005 and sump kit instructions?

I just bought a 9005 and sump kit used from someone, and there were no instructions included. I'm sure most of it is simple, but there are a few pieces of the sump kit that I'm not sure what to do with. Is there a PDF version of the instructions that I can get?

You can download it on tunze.com, it may be labeled as 9010 insructions but all skimmers share the same instructions. If you PM me an email address I can email it to you but the website would likely be more current, we revise manuals every 6-12months.

OK, I found the instructions, but maybe I'm not doing something right. I set it up for sump use, and I have it sitting in water that is about up to the halfway point on the body of the skimmer. However, when I turn it on, the water in the exit pipe doesn't exit, I can see it a few inches below the top. If I raise or lower the skimmer, it raises or lowers the level of water inside the skimmer. Shouldn't I be able to stick the skimmer in shallow water with the sump kit?

Yes, you need to have the bottom plate with the suction cup feet on all the way so the water cannot drain easily from the bottom. This plate is beveled on one side and that side should face forward.

I went ahead and just took the entire thing apart so I could clean it out since it was used. After putting it back together it started working, I must have gotten that plate in there right (the plate was already on when I got it, so maybe it was backwards?). I stuck it in the thing of rock I'm curing and had skimmate this morning.

Is it normal for the skimmer to make a faint clinking sound? It's hard to describe, but there is this quiet knocking or clinking or whatever noise while the skimmer is running. It appears to be skimming, so I'm not sure it's something I should worry about.

If it is a coffee maker type noise the pipe is in too far or it is too deep and water is backing up into the air intake. If it is a clicking from the pump, the bearing bush has slid forward and is dragging on the brakes.

I would say it's more the second one. I can disassemble the pump and check this myself?

Yes, the bearing bush is the collar around the top of the hole that the impeller inserts into, it is a combination bushing/ brake drum. It is what the brakes engage on and if it is crooked or out of position the brakes drag.

I took it apart and reassembled, and I can still hear it. Maybe I missed something. Is this going to hurt anything if it is the brakes dragging? Should I shut it off until I figure it out?

Long term it could cause damage but it would take at least a month to show so it is nothing to panic about.

I took it apart again, flipped the bushing 180 like you suggested in another thread, and that seemed to quiet it down. Thanks for your help!

I like this skimmer so far. Very silent, easy to set up, and seems to work well. I'm about 3 turns out on the screw, is that a good starting point?
