9005 Tunze DOC Protein Skimmers

A friend of mine recently bought one of these for his tank. he has had it set up for two weeks and there has been no skimmate. It is on a 100g tank thats lightly stocked. however i can see crap build up along the riser tube.

This skimmer is sitting inside his tank, I was wondering do you have to keep the water level consistent? or else it wont skim???

The blue screw is wide open and nothing seems to make it into the cup.

Would like some tips in making this thing work.

The more consistent the water level the better the results. The water level ideally is about 1/2" below the marked water line and does not fluctuate more than 1/2" up or down. The venturi screw should be open about 4 turns. I would make sure the airline is fully inserted into the venturi, that the airline is not kinked or pinched between the pump and the skimmer body and that the venturi is not damaged.

I noticed even when it was on the line it doesn't skim. The stuff does gather in the riser tube but does not make it in to the collection cup. So recently I lowered the skimmer to where the water lvl is above the blue line and it seems to be doing a better job. Now its getting some green water. I did check to see if the airline was kinked and it was not. I left the blue screw wide open also.

Does the venturi nozzle appear to be broken or is the airline hose a loose fit in the nozzle? Can you post a pic of your pump showing the venturi nozzle in particular?
