9005 vs. 9010

Okay,

I just purchased the 9005 and am wondering if I made the right choice. I will be using it with my 36 gallon mixed reef, mostly sps, in the 20 gallon sump before the refugium compartment. I only mention this b/c the information listed on the Tunze website stated that the skimmer is microfauna safe until it is modified to the insump version. My question is should I have gotten the 9010. I haven't actually received it yet so I can always exchange it for the 9010. Well this skimmer be sufficient for my system or is it a better idea to go with the 9010 in the long run. Thanks in advance.

What is your actual water volume? Probably not more than fifty gallons. The 9005 will handle a 52 gallon SPS tank with a heavy fish load or 80 gallons with a light fish load. I would stick with what you have coming.

cool, thanks for the response. I'm really looking forward to getting since I have a CPR BakPak2RR right now and am anticipating much better results with the tunze.

I had the SR2 in-sump version years ago, it worked okay. I will never knock CPR, they have been doing this since the dawn of the trickle filter.

no, I mean, CPR is a decent skimmer and serves its purpose fine, but since I was installing a new sump anyway I thought a new skimmer was in order and wanted to get something that good or really good rather than just decent.

Just keep in mind the 9005 needs at least 10" of water to run so if your water level is lower the sump kit is your only option so the 9010 is the better way to go. To run on plankton safe mode you will want to close the shutter door on the 9005 so it recirculates the water inside.
