Hi,

I don't know what is wrong with my skimmer but the pump does not like start after I turn it back on after a feed. I have to take it apart not really do much of anything to it, and it works after that. I think its the brake shoes, but maybe the whole impeller is shot? The shoes seem to be lose, or loser then they use to be.

What would you suggest?

How much is a whole new impeller?

Thanks,
Ser

I think you only need 3000.600, you can move over your old impeller blades, typically after a few years the brakes start to wear and the drive unit loses some force and should be replaced.

You can order them on tunze.com, but in general worn brakes will come with other problems, and the best is to replace the entire drive unit 3000.600. The brakes only are 3000.660, but if they have a loose fit, usually the magnet, brake shell or shaft is also worn, the bushing 3000.620 is essentially the brake drum, it wears as well and if not also replaced, it can wear out the new brakes quickly. About the only time I recommend brakes only is if you had a good drive unit and just lost the brakes in cleaning or disassembly or used a strong acid and essentially dissolved them. All of the above mentioned parts come with a complete drive unit.

So I got my parts today, which was nice and fast, thank you.

Unfortunately I broke my impeller trying to take it apart. It appeared to be fused or something. Anyhow, what part is the impeller? I assume it is 235.120?

Do you think I might break anything else?

It appears my upper bearing is really well calcified in the pump. I gather I should just leave it in vinegar for a while?

Thanks. :)

Impeller part # is correct, I think you already ordered it?

Yes, just soak in vinegar and you may need to use a screw or pick tool or small needlenose to extract it, a 3" #12 wood screw driven into the center will get it out if it isn't too badly stuck, only drive it in about 3/16"

Yes, I ordered it last night after I did a search and confirmed the part number :)

Thanks for the tip....I will let it soak a few days, since I can't use it. Should help "loosen" it a bit.
