9010 not producing enough foam

Hi,

I can't get my new Tunze DOC 9010 skimmer to work properly. It produces some foam that reaches almost to the cup but the skimmer fails to produce any significant amounts of skimmate. Very little very dark skimmate is produced in a period of one week. As I see it there just isn't enough foam.

I have let the skimmer to run for weeks so it should have had plenty of time to break in. At the same time Aqua Medic Turbo Flotor has been skimming fine.

The setup I have and what I have tested:
- the skimmer is attached to the glass in the display tank with a magnet holder
- both configurations are tested (display and sump)
- water level is adjusted correctly
- each position of the adjusting screw is tested
- it has been run without the screw
- it has been washed with vinegar
- all the parts looks to be in place
- hose is connected to the pump and is not bent double
- the rotor is disassembled and put back together

Only thing that seems to be wrong is the motor or the impeller.
As I tried the pump in the tank without the lid on - rotor exposed, it doesn't rotate smoothly it jumps up and down and rattles. It runns fine with the lid on or when air is let through the venturi.

should I take the pump back to the LFS and ship it to tunze or is there something what I can do to fix this promblem?

Thank you in advance,

Hi, I would think the problem has to do with the impeller. I would double check the bush bearing (collar around the hole) push it in firmly and then reinstall the impeller. If this doesn't fix it, the local fish store should be able to get you a replacement impeller.
