9010 pump issue - right from package

I just got my 9010 today and got ready to test it out. When I pluged it in it did not function at all.

I took the pump apart to look at the impeller and found a dimple in the impeller housing unit. This dimple keeps the impeller from turning at all.

I have a picture of the unit:

What is my best course of action to get a new pump?

PM me your address and I will send one later this week, we are expecting more on Thursday. I apologize for this problem, the motor is fine but the plastic part had a defect, it cannot run because the plastic will bind the impeller magnet.

I had the exact same problem with the 9010 I purchased this morning from a LFS. I'm glad I found this thread as it allowed me to quickly diagnose the problem, and go back to the store and get a new skimmer.

ambaratur: I'm glad you posted this thrd because I'd not looked at the pump. After taking the other skimmer out and make a mess to find out the new skimmer is not working is disappointing and the wife is not too happy with the mess either.

Roger,

I ordered the 9010 per your recommendation wit the 9020.140 for flexibility. I received the 9010 today from Marine Depot and right out of the box this thing is not working. Glad that the 6000 w/single controller didn't have any issue intalled last year.

Here are two pictures I took on the pump:

Please let me know the quickest course to resolve this problem.

I just PMed Roger with my email & telepnoe number. Can you tell me what other info I should give to him to get a head start?

Thanks.

btw--I was only able to get the cover off bu taking the 2 side clips out...are you suppose to be able to take anything else out?

Ok - I received my new motor today.

I have the skimmer running but it has a deffinite buzzing sound when it runs. It is louder than my ASM G3 skimmer so this does not seem right to me.

It is more of a buzz than a humm... This is supposed to be a quiet skimmer right?

Ok it is working now - there was a piece that I had to cut from the old motor - it was deep in the impeller hole and had to be recovered.

Now it is running much more quietly.

Wow, I've got the same problem with a brand new (3 days old) 6100. Ran perfectly without the controller for 2 days. Shut it down to disconnect the power to hook up the 7095 controller and it (1 of 2) froze up and the alarm started going off.

Opened it up and it looks exactly like the pics in this thread. What's the deal?

We had some problems with a plastic we switched to back in october to comply with new electonics and environmental regs in the EU. I will send a new motor.

Roger,

I'm currently on vacation but was told the motor came in and will install next week. Thanks for the quick respose to rectify the problem.

Just started my new Tunze 9010 up an it didnt work. I opened it up and i have the same problem. Roger i sent you a PM.

Roger,

Thanks again for getting the motor to me and good thing you marked the parts that is needed to take out from the old motor otherwise I'd have missed the bottom piece.

It's working fine but noticed something this morning...I feed frozen mysis no problem but when I fed frozen (Ocean Nutrition) Angel Formula the skimmer when nuts after 45 minutes and filled the collection cup to the top...I was wondering if this will happen everytime or the skimmer will settle after break-in period. If this will happen every time then I'll need to switch to pellets in the morning and frozen at night when I've time to monitor. So far I'd this up and running since Sunday and it's collecting about 150ml every 12 hours. It's probably more than normal since I didn't run a skimmer for about 8-9 days now.

TIA!

I use PE Mysis, Hikari Brine and New Life Spectrum pellets and I have yet to encounter this problem but I know that it can happen with very fatty foods or foods with added amino acids.
