9010s no foam

water hazzard

In Memoriam
Had 2 9010s for a little over a month. Worked great at first. Now all of a sudden foam isnt reaching top of tower no matter what adjustments. Saw a few threads where this was happening to others. Any advise?

There can be so many causes of this that it is almost impossible to diagnose without seeing the skimmer in person.

Some things to check:

Did you change foods or add a new supplement? This can disturb skimming for a few days after use is discontinued. Fatty foods, vitamins, stress coats, dechlorinators and amino supplements are key culprits.

Did you do any major work on the tank that changed the salinity or may have resulted in a lot of oils from your skin entering the tank?

Did you clean the skimmer recently? It is possible a hose was pinched or damaged or the venturi connection knocked loose or the bottom plate slipped off a bit.

it happen same thing here with me ,,i paid over 300buck for it but didn't work from first day,,i send it to Roger now, cost me another 15buck to ship it,,will see what happen ,,,i hope he will replace new one for me instead repair it,,i will let you know what wrong with it when he check my skimmer out,,goodluck

All things have been checked. Noticed when I took both apart that the little white nut that you can see on the front of the Hydrofoamer is not completely a circle but cracked sorta.Send me an email where I can send you pic. Thx

The impeller is held on by a split shaft, it is a half circle with a split in it that flares out to retain the impeller.

It is all plastic pieces that are machine molded, it is hard to imagine that it can work at first and then not work without some sort of change being induced by the user. Are you sure the airline nipple is fully inserted in the venturi of the pump? I would give it a couple days after checking everything out thoroughly.

I had a problem with my 9010(I bought it used from here), the foam wasn't rising in the cup and adjusting the screw, to control the air/foam, did absolutely nothing. I bought a 9005 collection cup hoping it would help, but didn't. Then when I took it out of my sump to clean it I finally noticed a hole/gap in the plastic piece where the screw goes. I put some silicone sealant over the hole to plug it and now it works great, so I would just check the plastic inlet piece, where the screw goes, to make sure there is no hole or gap where air can sneak in. hopefully this helps

I can't post a pic because I lost the usb chord for my digital camera, and I'm a complete moron when it comes to technology and computers anyway, even when I did have the chord I didn't know how to post pictures. The format or size(something like that) was always too big and I don't know how to make it smaller, like I said, I'm a moron when it comes to electronicsand technology.
Basically the piece if plastic, where the air adjustment screw goes, had a quarter-circle gap in it where it connected to the main body of the skimmer. Originally I thought it was there for a reason, but when I took everything apart to clean the pump I tried blowing into the airline tubing to see if there were any air leaks. I noticed that even if I screwed the screw in as far as it could go, I could still blow into the airline tubing with relatively no resistence. So I tried to find the hole and noticed it on the threaded inlet where the screw goes. I then covered the whole with aquarium sealant and it has worked like a champ ever since. If you still need a picture, I can take one with my phone and send it to you, just let me know.

ever since I plugged the whole in mine it's worked great. I've had and still have(I have 4 tanks) tons of skimmers and I feel this is the easiest to setup, use, and maintain. My RPS-1000(pacific coast imports, the small recirculating one) might be easier to maintain, simply because of the drain on the collection cup, but was 10x the hassle to setup. Now that my 9010 works great I'm thinking of buying the collection cup with the drain, then I wouldnn't have to do a single thing to the skimmer for over a month. If yours is only working periodically, I imagine something is still not right, because I feel this is probably the easiest skimmer to use, while still being a great skimmer, it's easier to use then the bak-pak on my 20gallon.

It can happen when you clean it or make a change to the water chemistry that the silencer gets flooded with water and needs time to clear or the surface tension changes. I have seen this on my own skimmers if I feed a very fatty food or dose vitamins/amino supplements.
