90g Reef Rebirth

Gald to see you no long a college kid any longer and your going to do better this time around.

What gets me on your old tank is my wife would NEVER let me have the in the dining room or kitchen.. It's really gross!

Use your existing rock....scrub it off in salt water before you put it in there and then run a phosban reactor for a few months. You will be good to go. I had a similar problem and I took care of it like that. After you put the rock in there, just pull off large clumps of any hair algae and it will take care of itself in time.

Sweet, that's what I was planning on doing. Anyone have any experience with the BRS Dual reactor for carbon and GFO? I was curious about the flow rates through the two media.

Thats very nice. How do you like the reef keeper?

Thanks

Well the only thing I know about the reefkeeper is that it looks nice. I have resisted the urge to play with it on my current setup. I honestly can't wait until I get it functioning on the new tank. I will be sure to keep you updated when I get it online!

I am trying to take my time and do a better job. I'm currently living at home while I save money and my parents always had a tank in the kitchen hall spot so they kept harassing me to work on it. You can see it as soon as you walk in the front door so its a really high profile spot.

Well now that your all grown up I'm sure you'll do better, I'm sure that will make your mother happy!
Good luck.

Just got one myself and run it with a maxijet 1200. I have to dial the power head way back to get the flow rate for the GFO correct. I don't plan to run GFO all the time (we'll see how that pans out), so mine will be mainly for carbon use. But I have seen many say that running separate reactors for both is the best route. That way changing media and flow rates for GFO and carbon are not tied together.

As things go in this hobby you they are not terribly expensive.. and you don't need both from the start. But an idea is to run these via a small manifold off your return pump if it can handle it. Then you have two less power heads in your sump. I have a 1/2" gate valve inbound from BRS just for this purpose and I'll install a tee above the pump then use the valve to regulate how much flow is split off to the reactor.

That sounds like good advice. I was actually thinking of installing a tee off of the return for later use and just closing it off. I really only need phosban for now. I was thinking maybe a two little fishies reactor?

I have no experience with two little fishies reactor but have read that they can be difficult to work with.. change media etc.. That is the primary reason I went with the BRS unit. A lot of people use the TLF reactor though...

Wow glad to hear that you are going to revamp your 90. I also have a 90 and i love it. Your tank should plan out beautiful.

yea, i have heard all good things about the BRS supply unit.

Good info....I think I might do some more research and consider the BRS unit to get started with in the not so distant future. One problem I might have is space under the tank since my sump runs the length and is also tall.

I thought about going with a 75 for the revamp but stuck with the 90 for the extra depth and volume, 90s are just a real nice size. Thanks for the compliments, I'm really excited to have this project moving.

Update......

The current tank is torn down and all the rock has been scrubbed and sitting with a heater and a power head in a tub. The stand has an initial coat of clear and is coming along nicely. Hopefully I can get the stand in the house and snap some pictures within the next day or two.

Here is an updated Full Tank Shot

Here are a couple pictures of the stained and cleared stand minus the doors and side panels.

Hopefully getting the tank on the stand tonight and maybe some water.

Well the tank is mocked up on the stand inside and the sump is sitting underneath. Nothing is permanent yet just mocked up and I'm triple checking everything. I also managed to cut a hole in the back of the stand to allow access to the outlets.

Just taking it slow to make sure everything is good to go. No need to rush anything.
