90g Reef Rebirth

The work continues on the tank. I'm mostly just addressing a few loose ends at this point. Hopefully I can get the plumbing fully circulating tonight. Here's a couple of pics of the progress.

More to come.

Wow. I think I need you to come to my house. Are there aquascape architects? I'm not anywhere near an artist and nor am I mechanically, plumbingly inclined...

umm. How do you know what all the valves do? ;)

wow.

Thanks for the admiration. I might play around with the left aquascape a little bit more or I might leave it alone. The plumbing I painstakingly designed myself and I think it is going to work well. All the valves allow me to regulate the flow from the drain to the skimmer section and the fuge as well as the return to the tank. I also tried to design the plumbing to be as out of the way as possible given the tight quarters.

I decided to spend some time working with the reefkeeper to get familiar with it and I managed to get the Itemp probe hooked up and controlling my heater. Next I want to work on getting the lights programmed and see what else I can figure out.

The last few days I have been taking it slow and just slightly tweaking a few things while everything settles in. I uploaded the latest firmware to both the RKL headunit as well as the PC4. The programming was pretty easy to figure out and I have the temp set at 79 degrees but it is taking a while to slowly bring it up. I also plugged the lights into the PC4 and programmed the timers which was very simple.

Here is my Aquactinics TX5 combo from front to back:
ATI Aquablue
ATI Blue+
UVL Actinic White
ATI Blue+
ATI Blue+

It has a nice crisp Blueish White look. I have the 2 and 4 slots (Blue+'s) setup to come on at 11am and go off at 7pm (dusk dawm). The other 3 come on at 12pm and off at 5pm. I am limiting the overall lighting to try and prevent algae growth but provide just enough for the few corals.

More updates to come.

Apparently I have my anal retentive hat is on this morning and might have some constructive critisisms.. :beachbum:

So I realise you got your hands full and might catch up later.. but is that calcified buildup on the powerheads and skimmer body or just dust from the sand?

The powerheads are covered in dust/debris from the sand/rock. I plan on taking them out to clean once everything is good and settled. The skimmer had some coralline algae that is now dieing off but I am sure will grow back. I cleaned the inside chmber as best I could when it was apart so its in pretty good shape.

Yeah its the small stuff that makes a differnce when it comes to a great looking tank.. just keepign you on your toes. :D

The light sounds great.. I like that it has three different ballast switches. I have an ATI coming into today with a very similar bulb combo.. basically one more aquablue and a fiji purple instead of the the UVL actinic white. Hopefully it looks somewhat like you describe yours with a "crisp Blueish White look"

I had a little time so I re-aquascaped. I went with the minimalist island look. What do you think?

P.S. Ignore my reflection lol

I like the island look

It looks good

Dude, you are making some awesome progress. I hope the motivation sticks and maybe some will rub off on me.

Yep, I like the islands. Can't wait to see that thing lit up.

Thanks for the compliments guys, it makes me feel pretty good about the layout. None of the rock touches the glass but a little does touch the overflow. I am thinking this will give plenty of room for fish to swim and corals to grow as well as a large rock surface area for filtration. I am hoping I can keep my hands away from the rock and just let it ride. I will be sure to snap a couple picks with the lights on today.

I have been fighting with the option of running a gate valve on my ASM G3 since I have the parts and tonight I finally did it. It took quite a few designs to find one that fit in the very tight space and worked like it should. I might try and clean up a few power cords and such tonight too.

I decided to mount the doors and the associated hardware and I am 110% happy with the way it turned out. The large doors give it a really modern look and a very low profile. Here are some pictures!

Wow.. let me redeem myself by saying that stand turned out really nice. Everything look really good.. I won't say another word about those powerheads!

Wow looks really nice. The reefkeeper fits into the stand there perfectly. Makes me want to mount mine, right now its just laying in the bottom of my stand.
