93 Gallon Cube Build

I just emailed Kessil my tank dimensions to see what they could recommend. I will go with the radions if all else fails. But I really like the looks and shimmer effect of the Kessils.

wow ! both the kessil and the radion tank look very nice ! but keep in mind the one with the kessils has a more open auqascape letting all the light in , if you would put them over the tank with the radion i'm sure they would not be as good as lighting the full tank. Just look at how much light spills from the Kessil tank , I would try and get them closer to the water and get more light at the bottom of the tank. Radion's are very expensive but if you can afford it they are a proven product! and I also like the spectrum and shimmer of kessil's. I got a great deal on my maxspect so I cant complain but I always wonder what kind of colors I would get with other setups.

I think the rock work on my tank is pretty open. I will be able to put corals on the sandbed around the whole tank. And I don't dislike the color on my maxspect, but I'm like you, I wonder what color other setups might give.

Finally got around to testing my water.

My ammonia is 1.0 ppm
Nitrite is 0ppm
And Nitrate is 0ppm

Do I need to do anything at this point? Or just wait?
I also had added a piece of shrimp to start the cycle. Do I need to leave it in or remove it?

Added the clean up crew a couple of days ago. Had a small ammonia spike, but everything has returned to normal. I also performed a 10% water change last night, so I'll see what the readings are this morning. I'm hoping that if my levels stay stable, I can add one fish before Christmas. I'd like to have one in the tank for when my nieces visit.

This hermit crab is way large. He's doing a great job at cleanup, but I will remove him from this tank when I start to add corals. I can see him stepping on everything and knocking everything over.

I have also decided to go with the Echotech Radions. I'm hoping to purchase them around the 1st of the year. Kessil emailed me back, but it sounded like they just wanted to sell me a light, compared to what I truly needed for my tank. I also will buy a mesh lid from BRS for the tank. It currently has a glass lid. I've also been stocking up on things like filter socks.

I swear that I'm not trying to rush things, but when you're a coral junkie, it's hard to just look at rocks. I had an extra frag of a Duncan coral that I added this morning.

I'm going to get a EcoTech Radion XR30w G3 Pro for my 93 gallon. And Kessil did email me back. This is the email:
"Thank you for your email and your interest in Kessil lighting! For your tank set up, we recommend 2 x A360WE- tuna blue lights with the A Series Goosenecks to provide the maximum coverage and penetration.
The A360s are compatible with our Spectral Controller, as well as the Apex, Blue Fish, or Reefkeeper to mimic daylight cycles, ramp up / ramp down, and set times for the lights to turn on and off. Please let us know if you have any questions. Thank you!"

But the A360's only cover a 24" width, and my tank is 30".
I don't feel there will be good coverage from front to back. It just seems like they were trying to sell me a light.

That's why I was curious what they would reply. Spread is one of the limitations of LED clusters. I would not put less than 4 of the 160s over that tank.

I would think that two AP700 would give good coverage too, but damn that's a lot of money.

I hear you on T5 and replacement. I'm bad with that sort of thing as well.

Merry Christmas to me! Picked up a Magnificent Foxface & Elegance coral today. It may have been too early to add the elegance coral. I'm not sure. I know that I want a large elegance coral in this tank, so I'm going to attempt it. I've never kept one before. The only other fish that I can think of for this build is maybe a starry blenny.

Here's a cellphone photo of the elegance coral, but just a question. Does it take it a little while to adjust in a new tank? The tentacles aren't as long as they were in the store. I'm not sure if it's Indonesian or Australian. But the flesh isn't bulging like the disease some of the Indonesians can have. I'm hoping it's just adjusting to the tank.
