96x36x30 Envision tank coming soon - any suggestions?

I recommend the tunzes as well. I use a combination of 2 vortechs, 2 of the 6201s, and a hammerhead. I especially like the tunze controller and adjustability.

Strength through friends aye? Are you german?

If I can find some used ones I would gladly put them in my tank. :)

Is the Hammerhead a return pump?

"Strength through Joy" (Freunde is friend); it's my life's motto. The happier you are, the the healthier and stronger you are. I am 1/4 German... so not quite full.

I think the 250 / 400 mix would work. I'd have 8 four foot T5's as well.

FishTruck brings up a good point, if you don't like the idea of a closed loop and Tunze's are out of your price range, go with Korlia Wavemaker Controller.

I was SERIOUSLY thinking about getting the 4xControllable Koralia 4's and the wavemaker.. Seems like the 'poor man's Tunze' :)

you may want to read a few of the threads here on koralia reliability.
i was thinking of tunze or vortech too but it too pricey for me i just bought a 3 korallia 4 to replaced my piece of s*** sureflow kit are they that bad?

you may want to read a few of the threads here on koralia reliability.

I just did a search on Koralias (in titles under the search function) and came up with MOSTLY people who don't seem understand how the pump works, or how to do routine maintenance on them. :)

Which forum(s) did you see these in?

Here are a few things I have for the tank so far:

Over half down on the tank :D

Reeflo Orca 250 skimmer (should be here on the 20th)

Calcium Reactor and solenoid dual gauge (no Co2 tank yet)

200lbs of bagged Aragonite, plus another 200lbs of previously used crushed coral

Approximately 250lbs+ of mixed live rock

20+ coral frags sitting in a 40 gallon AGA breeder tank

VHO 2xbulb w/ballast

Things I know I need to buy for the tank

Custom steel stand (negotiating prices currently)

dual 400w MH ballast

dual 250w MH ballast

4x Lumenarc IIIs reflectors

8ft of moonlights :)

200lbs more Aragonite

a sump/refugium (ideally someone's really scratched up 200g acrylic tank would work!)

a return pump (still not quite sure which one)

Things I'm considering

Tunze wavebox (and possibly an extension)

-OR-

Tunze 6300's - Vortechs - OR an OM 4-way/8-way

Profilux controller (undecided on which package)

100lbs of Bali liverock. :)

A "drain"? How does that work? :)
These are a couple pics of a tank with a CL that was added on after the tank was full of water, and no holes have been drilled for the CL:

In this first pic you can see the strainer for the "drain" towards the back, and you can see two of the CL returns (the OM Revolutions).

This pic is just another angle showing them.

Here is a pic of the 4-Way OM behing the tank. Its mounted towards the very top:

Very nice on the Envision! Do you have a build-link for it? :)
Unfortunately I had to sell it due to a move. I had started a build thread, but let it die. I will have another here shortly near the holidays, as I just ordered a new AGE tank last week. :D

hey man, i like it.
do you think the difference between the 400 & 250MH's will stand out ? have you seen this ? i'm building the same size tank and will most likely go 4 x 250's with t5 help. did you want to grow clams in the sand or something else that is hungry for light ? do you feel only 250's isn't going to cut it ?

oh yeah, forgot to mention theres a thread somewhere on this forum called "if you could build your large tank again, what would you do differently "? most if not all said they wouldn't do a CL, more trouble than it's worth, cracked bulkheads, leaking pipe joints etc..... food for thought maybe ?

Definitely is food for thought! Thank you!

I'm still in the process of tossing around ideas. I may just go balls out and get the Tunzes and a Wavebox.

Turbelles or Streams? Anyone? :)

I'm not quite sure on that. I've considered just 4x250's as well. They cost the same as the 400's. :)

I may get some clams in the future, but I'm mostly going with soft corals, zoos, lps, and a few sps. MAYBE Acropora in the future. :)

What are you going to house in your tank?

Mortis13 is an interesting name.... It's not based on Mortiis, is it? :)

i have 2 400s and 2 250's with lumen arch III mini there is no noticeable differencei can see. i might switch one of the 400's to my other 250's the 400's is just for the clams in the bottom .electricity is too expensive. i save some anywhere i can find it . thats why i didn't do a close loop. and korallia have series 8 now far cheaper than tunze .my 2 cents

im in love with strange alien colored zoanthids at the moment but will also go for LPS and acros later. the 250's and 400's may cost the same at first however the running costs will be more exciting. what do you think of 3 x 400's, is the length too much? would the lights being that bit further apart form light and dark bits? would they have to be so mounted so high to get an even spread that the extra power would be wasted? im thinking id like t5s to simulate a more believable dawn/dusk, could this help to fill in the dark bits? as you can see i want to keep running costs down, the dream comes first of course but dollars count to.
mortis is not from mortiis, (interesting group), but no im a warhammer 40k fan, (for good or for ill).

and another thing (while im going on ), tunze look real good as im sure they are but after i read the price ( and stopped laughing ) i dont think i'll be putting them in my tank. im impressed with the profilux 11 also, real shame bout them tunzes. vortecs sound good as well but can only be mounted at 90* to the glass, too limited i feel. so still no pumps have made it to my list yet. $800plus for a powerhead, ha ha ha, please tunze your killin me with that stuff.

I am now the proud owner of a Reeflo Orca 250!

<img src="http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e248/dismalorb/Picture586.jpg">

These things are quite large I must say. I'm trying to find something (acrylic tank) large enough to accomodate it's floor plan. Hopefully one of my awesome LFS', Rose City Aquarium or Saltwater Fanta-Seas can come up with something for me.

The tank will be FULLY completed in late December, as it takes a while for the tank to cure (and build!).

Hey, your 2 cents are worth far more than 2 cents. :)

That's really good to know! I may just do that. I need to watch my electricity bills as well... especially with 3 smaller tanks in the house.

Is a closed loop high in power consumption?

Oh! A video game reference... nice! :) The last console I bought was a Playstation 1.. :)

I'm considering the Profilux II as well! When I looked at them, the package ranged from $600-$1600 for the full meal deal.

I'm trying to be careful when it comes to buying inadequate parts in order to piece the puzzle together early. Sometimes you get what you pay for, and if you need to replace it, you pay more that what you would've had you just bought the proper equipment the first time. :D

I'm a sucker for alien colored zooanthids too. But my latest joy has been Acanthastreas. MMMMMmmmm. :)

You're lucky... you're closer to the Barrier Reef than I am, and probably have access to some AMAZING stuff! Lucky man!
