can't resist showing off my new barrier reef clown pair. She is just over 4 inches, he is just under 4 inches. They are even more brightly colored in person- glowing caramel.

fair price depends on where you are. I never ever see these here in Baltimore. I bought the pair online(liveaquaria.com) for what I think was a pretty steep 2 c-notes. liveaquaria has a pair for $250 right now, even steeper. I wouldn't pay that for an immature pair. What made me go for these was the size, they are both fully grown. The male has already started rock cleaning, and the two sleep together in their anemone. So far they are leaving my percula pair and my lone bluestripe alone (he is trying to buddy up to the female), but I had to move the pink skunk and orange skunk clowns out (they were actually bullying the akindynos clowns, which are many times larger than them).

You paid

You paid

200 for your pair and i paid 60 for two juvies.. One unfrotunately went carpet surfing. But Liveaquaria is very expensive.

Check out my pics i have lots of mine.

sweet looking little clown, reefvette. yeah, I agree $30 bucks is a much better deal. Hopfully these two will settle in and thrive. But you have to admit that two clowns nearly big enough to fry up for dinner deserve a premium price.

I noticed that LiveAquaria was also selling a pair of percs, not even onyx for $200 as well. So, by LiveAquaria standards you got a good deal. :)

FWIW: The wholesale price for Akindynos pairs is about $50. However, thats about one pair every month and a half or so for the whole country and they rarely look as nice as your pair. Sometimes you have to pay to get what you want, when you want it. Congrats, I hope they spawn for you soon.

Reefvette,
Were your akindynos captive bred?

You got it

You got it

I am damn proud of it too. A pig. I do feed her live mysis and algea flake food. But mine is very dark and just starting to get adult colors.

I got a pair from Aquarium Concept in Hayward about a year ago and paid $100 for them. They were large then, and now they are huge. Your have light brown color ones, very nice. Mine have shown blue strips most of the times and white strips on other times. Did you notice the color changes on the strips? I have been wanting to ask some experts but never got around to do it.

here's a few more pics of the clowns. I will have to spend more time to get clean shots- it is really hard to get pics that are both in focus and interesting...
one pic shows off the on-fire caramel color when they are out in the bright light. the other shows how her head bar has become discontinuos while his is still connected.

Sorry guys, my photog skills leave much to be desired. Female is 5+" and the male is 4+". Gotta love the size of WC clowns. LA pair as well, from about 6 months ago.
