A Big THANK YOU to Corey and Doc Aquarium!!!

I just wanted to give a quick thank you to Corey and Doc Aquarium. I'm out of town on a semi-vacation and of course I run into a semi-emergency with my tank.

I checked in online on my dropcam just to make sure everything is ok, and I see my garage floor completely wet. My wife tells me the external overflow box is steadily dripping.

In a cold sweat, I start texting people and Cory responded. Long story short, he came by within a couple of hours. It turns out the external overflow box actually delaminated on the side.

Corey jumped into action, bought a clamp, rebonded the overflow box and also bonded a support acrylic bar for extra support.

On top of all of that, him and Doc Aquarium only charged me for the materials. They understood I was on vaca and these thing always happen at the worst time...they were just helping out a hobbyist...honestly, I expected this from a good friend like Corey, but for Kevin at Doc Aquarium, a business nonetheless, to have the same attitude gives me great hope that not everyone in this hobby is a slave to the dollar bill...but it's for the passion of the hobby...Thank you for fixing my problem, but more so for the latter!

Interesting, I actually called Doc Aquarium a week ago about some of their frags listed on eBay. Trying to make time to go up to Malibu and get a few sticks from them. Glad they took care of you.

Yes he is! I'm using the Dropcam Pro. It's ok, but if you're willing to drop the change, I'd recommend Scott's camera. He can zoom down to the polyp. I just see blurry fish swimming around.

This post made me think that their should be a listing of members in your area that would be able to help fellow hobbyists in an emergency. Basically a emergency contact list where a member can go to a directory and contact local members near them for assistance. I would be willing to put my name on such a list. Being on the list would not mean you have to assist, but if available you could. Just a though and maybe it exists and I do not know about it, or maybe it has been tried and did not work. Just a thought.

Wow, glad to see all worked out ok. Great people in the hobby make things even better. I would imagine that store has a couple pizzas being delivered to soon. Even better a nice bottle on Xmas eve . Props to Corey and doc aquarium

Holy cow, that is really scary. I have an external overflow on my Leemar, and it's the one part I always dread will crack/break. Mine is against a wall, so hopefully the wall kind of supports the acrylic and doesn't allow it to flex/bend too much.

Who built your tank? Not to bash them or anything, I'm just interested.

My GP's are in my reef tank so they were safe. But you're right, if they were in danger, my stress level would be a million times higher and I would literally be on the next flight home!

I definitely agree with you that all reefers should have a emergency contact list. Honestly though, there are only a small handful of people I would trust working on my tank, Corey being one. The great thing about Corey too is that he works for tank maintenance company so he has all those resources available too.

Thanks Richard. I try to live healthy so prob no pizzas...but definitely a few frags if he ever gets his system going. Don't all reefers work for frags?!?

I prefer not to name the builder in this thread because I don't want this thread going towards that direction. If you're really curious, you can search my build thread. It's easily findable there. But we can discuss the design flaw there. I have my theories and what I would do differently the next time around.
