That is the smallest bird I have ever seen!

Is that a baby hummingbird?

That is a "very large Adult Male Ruby Throat" and one of the heaviest on record that they banded.

They generally weigh less than 4 grams and this dude weighed over 6.

This was take at the Strawberry Plains Hummingbird Festival.

The wood storks was taken last weekend in a foggy drizzly rain!!

How in the world do they catch such a tiny bird to band it? I can just imagine some biologist with a really really tiny blowgun.

Here is the trap setup that is used.

One guy sits at at table off to the side with pushbutton spincast fishing reels and line attached to the doors. When a hummer flies in, you touch the release and the door drops.
