A blue gigantea update thread

Hello. I'm very happy to see update threads both good and bad talking about individual experiences. I would also like to share my limited experience of what I have so far. Like others, I hope to be successful in keeping these beauties long term. I'm only posting what I'm comfortable with right now, partly because I think it's a jinx sometimes to share photos. So here is what I have so far..... comments and suggestions welcome as always.

I acquired two blues. One was darker and much larger than the other. For some reason, I wanted to keep them together. I have no real reason for doing that, other than gut feeling. So far, it's been 6 weeks since putting it in the tank, so I know I have a long way to go. If you see anything wrong, please advise. I understand the tank may not be the ideal size in the long run. I would very much like to correct that later.

Here is when I first got them:

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/nullcable/2606254614/" title="DSC_6093 by nullcable, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3091/2606254614_aa25a2dc71_o.jpg" width="800" height="532" alt="DSC_6093" /></a>

Then the smaller bleached one moved about 4 weeks later, back right corner:

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/nullcable/2643089584/" title="DSC_6338 by nullcable, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3004/2643089584_29ba3306bb_o.jpg" width="800" height="518" alt="DSC_6338" /></a>

Then at week 6, the bleached one moved to the front, and starting to gain the color back:

hans: I'm no way out of the woods....I sincerely hope both of ours does well in the long run.

Toddtrex: You are sweet. It's not the camera, it's me! If I'm able to keep these long term and I get to start a 'show off' thread, I will definitely have to ask for help. heehee.

I don't know if I would help you, its not like you have ever done anything for me. ;) ;) ;)

Those are absolutely stunning. The blue on them is just...crazy. I also want to know how big the big one is. It looks enormous!

Also, can you tell us the tank specs?

Good Lord that looks like 4 or 5, the darker one is so big!!

What does "E-Club" mean? And wow 750 gallon build? Jeeeeealous!!!!

Good luck for continuing the positive trend with these two. :)

Yes ToddT, I'm just too much of a mooch.:D

That's a good question about the size of the darker one. I don't have a clue how big it is since it keeps spreading out differently based on where the other one is. I was looking at them today, and the big one looks even bigger now!

If I can show you 3D, the entire back portion is that large gigantea, it hits the glass in back. I'm wondering if I should add another Tunze?

Should I? I really wanted to keep the look clean, but whatever they need trumps aesthetics at this point. Right now I have a Tunze 6101 and nanostream 6055 in addition to the return.

The 'E' club refers to the tanks. They are Elos system 70's that I wanted to dedicate to gigantea and clowns. I have two of them, one for the Rod's and one for the Picasso's.

I do wish I went bigger. If they continue to do well and become established in that tank, I will entertain thoughts of a larger tank in the same style.

Thanks for your well wishes delphinus, it's very much appreciated and I hope for the same with yours.

As for the 750.....yes, I'm intimidated. It's taking me much longer than it should to set up because of it. Hopefully I can execute.

Wow I was just browsing and couldn't but help take a double take at your pic's.
How big is your tank that you have them in?
What type of lighting?
Any full tank pictures!

Beautiful pictures

The bleached one moved again. This time to the top right, near the overflow.

The following pictures are to show the size compared to the tank. The tank is 55 gallon cube.

sugar, those are AWESOME! I just finally filled my new 56-gallon tank with water last weekend. I'm planing on it being a clown/nem tank and was thinking about a carpet.

Where did you get those guys? Are they eating or just sunbathing?

-Scott

Thank you Scott. It's very much appreciated. I really hope they can do well long term. I'm still very nervous, and especially nervous about jinxing if I posted the pictures.

If you get one that's small, I think the tank would be okay. However, I didn't think it would be so big when it spread out. I definitely wish I had a 2-300 gallon tank for them. (I'm being very serious)

I specified that health be priority and I don't care about size. I ended up with these. I'm a little bit worried that the smaller bleached one keeps moving.

Although it is regaining some color, something is bothering it where it can't get comfortable. I added the third powerhead and I hope that solves the issue. I'm not really sure.

If I could do it over, I would have definitely gotten a bigger cube and a series of tunze powerheads on a multicontroller instead of vortechs.

OMG Kathy, OMG OMG OMG OMG.

i want one soooo badly, you have done such a good job with them you really deserve a pat on the back.

BRAVO!

I hate to be a downer, but the tenticals on the large one look REALLY spread out. I'd be super nervous, hows the mouth look?

Re: A blue gigantea update thread

They look pretty good, especially the larger one. One thing that concerns me is the lack of tenticle density/length in the center of then oral disk ..... they look hungry! What happens when you try to feed them?

GSM: Thanks for your enthusiasm, but it's still new. I'm keeping my fingers crossed though......

Jov and EJ: Thanks for your assessment. I didn't realize spread out means hungry, I thought it had to do with flow. I don't feed them directly. I just feed the clowns heavy. Should I be giving them more?
When I feed the tank I notice it grabs on the little bits of Rod's. I don't know what the mouth looks like, I would have to stand on top of a chair and look down into the tank.

Ron: The last group of pictures were pretty much the full tank shots.
