a Centropyge for my reef

Hello,

I would like to add one Centropyge to my reef but read that some of them might harm corals.
which one would you recommend as a reef safe? I thought of Eibli Angelfish but some sites claim he might bite corals every now and than.

Thanks!

IMO...there is no guarantee with any of them...I have a pair of Flames and a coral beauty in my tank, for years without a problem...but that could change tomorrow. Also what some people think is 'nipping' may just be the angel cleaning a dead/dying piece from the coral, not the healthy tissue.

+1

I have a pair right now in my reef. SPS dominant but I also have a few LPS/softies as well as clams. I have had them for six months and so far so good. That being said just as Albano said that could change tomorrow, but so far I have had luck with Potters, flame, coral beauty, and flameback ( both Brazilian and African). Just be aware of this a be prepared to get him out of there if it dosen't work out. I hope this helps.

From my experience Eibli are more obligated to eat corals than say a flameback or multicolors. It also depends on how often you feed your fish. The more feeding, the less risk to your coral. Some of the pygmy angels that I recommend as "safe" are flameback, multicolor, cherub and the atlantic pygmy. There is always risk with clams and fleshy LPS though.

Eibli is the worst choice.

they will ALL eat corals, so unless you can handle that , dont get one.

My coral beauty does not seem to harm any corals, I've had him a couple years. I tried putting in a lemonpeel a couple months ago and he started nipping at everything. Right now the lemonpeel is banished to a nano till I find a new home for him.

I have onl tried one and it was an eiblli and it ate on any fleshy LPS I had but it left my SPS alone.

I drained the whole tank to catch a BiColor a couple weeks ago.

Oh my god!!

and I was going to write that biColor and flame are my only options.

now I really don't know what to do. I should probably look for a some other kind of fish for my reef...

gees...

you should

you should only get an angel or think about one, if you love it more than your corals :)

I have a pair of fireball that never touch a corals if you feed enough

Also no need to drain a tank to catch a fish I have 435 gallon tank in wall that I catch almost every fish ( all 100 of the ) if they need to be caught with a exception of sand dwelling wrasse. Just do it at night very simple

I have a potters and a multi colored angel in my reef. Every now and then I see them nipping at my SPS but doesn't seem to do any damage to them
