A. chrysopterus

I was so excited today because my pair of Marshall Is. white tailed A. chrysopterus were coming in to the lfs today. But unfortunetly the female came in DOA! She was so pretty too, what a shame. She was orange with very blue stripes. Her bag sprung a leak and it lost half it's water and all oxygen. So now I'm in need of female.

This pic doesn't do her justice at all.

The male is doing very well. Doesn't appear to have any infections or skin lessions. I acclaimated him to my tank water, then did a short fw dip. So far so good. I'm going to be keeping a very close eye on him for the next few weeks.

I really just wanted to share. Thanks for looking.

Very nice male!! Too bad about the female

They are some of my favorite clowns. You will find it can become an obsession to have some of these clowns...at least thats what I have heard

Be very vigilant, they can head south fast and be dead in a day.

Rare Angels is very right!!! I am one of the obsessed but I may need to stop buying these clowns until new break-threws come along to help with the diseases they come with. I wont be happy until the day that I get a healthy pair in my tank. I've tried every medication combination, QT, established reef tank, and still no luck. I wish someone would breed them already.

Yes, I'm obessed and consider myself very lucky to have had my pair in QT for about 5 weeks. Sorry to hear about your female. Just remember you are probably in the market for a small male since he will become she very shortly.

After I got home from work, I did notice that he has a "strange" dark colored spot on his side just behind the gills. I'll be doing a formalin dip tomorrow and start using Maracyn Two also.

On a good note, he ate like a stinking pig and is swimming all over the place.

keep a very close eye on them, it usually starts with them not eating or by scratching at something, don't hesitate to treat them.

I know that many people are going to yell at me for suggesting this, but here is my wild clown protocol. Place the fish in your quarentine tank and dose it with Nitrofurazone and 3/4 tsp/100gallons of Copper. 25% water change everyday for 10 days and re-dose after the water change.

This has worked like a charm for me!!

PS. Use Nitrofurazone and Metro for ephippums (red saddles), they die with Cu!

The formalin I ordered didn't come in today, so I did another fw dip. Started the Maracyn Two . He ate twice today, not as much the second time but eat he did. He seems to want to hover mid tank, which may be where he's finding the current to his liking. I think he's breathing fairly hard.

No scratching and still no signs of infection. I hope he keeps going this well and that the breathing slows down soon. The wholesaler has already told me he will get me another female soon. Maybe I'll have him get another pair just to make sure.

While doing some web searching, I ran across a really old post from a guy in Cali who mentioned he'd had luck raising chrys' along with many of the harder to keep clowns. Eco-tropic was his handle. Does any one know this guy? I believe I know his real name and I even found an old email addy for him so I droped him a line. Hope I hear back from him.

I lost the male during the night. Which really sucks. I'm begining to think that the secret may be to get juvis instead of adults or sub-adults.

I found eco-tropic. Any particular q's you want asked? I did invite him over to rcf (after the updates are finished). This is the list of what he's raised so get your questions ready.

My Chry's are very small and that certainly helps. Although, not to start a debate I know a lot of people have success with not QTing them and adding them directly to a reef tank. It is risky though.
