A corner in Taiwan

Happy New Year 2014

A few new coral require careful take care. I will track their change from time to time.

The first three were from a LFS for free!!! Owner is a friend and these SPS were placed in sump and become very dark color.

A week in tank, I can see the green tip now. This frag is about three inches.

This one is not too bad originally, but red turn to purple. This frag is about a Mc chicken nugget size.

A strawberry but not very healthy. It has great potential from the way I look. It is about 5 inches.

This strawberry cake was in my tank about two months. I think I dose too much BB so it lost its green on skin. BB was stop two weeks ago, and I can see some green back.

This staghorn was actually purchased (US$30) when it just shipped to Taiwan, not even bag open. It lost most color and dying when back home check. I left it in my sump for two days before place it back to display tank. I think I am able to keep it, but still don't know what color it will turn into. It has light blue around tip and blue PE. It is a pen size.

I'm sure corals will come back in no time shih!;)

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for that too....

Those are nice additions my friend. I'm sure in your tank they will look awesome soon! :)

I think this is the fun part of reefing....coral colonies exchange with friends and expect of winning a jackpot

great tank bro, can't wait to get my new tank up and learn new things from you...

Good to know my little brother also a SPS hobbyist. Let's exchange our experience and grow our skills together.

BTW, Happy 2014 Chinese New Year of Horse....A few new shots to share....

Awesome photography! Those staghorn type corals are so grown up in your tank! The fish must love swimming through the branches. :)

After a week Chinese New Year holiday"¦ My tank was domaines by algae now

...on sand bed

...on frag holder

There is not enough space to syphon sand out, so I remove my frag as many as possible to create room to reach tank bottom

Wait till tomorrow to see if any impact to my coral...

Do you have any idea what caused the algae?

I am scratching my head... I do know I have red algae issue, but not this growing rate... Anyhow...the furry-like algae on frag holder is brand new stuff to me and trigger my immediately action!!!

My recent changes are below...

1. Adding TM A- (3ml day) & K+ (5 ml daily) about two months
2. Adding BrightWell BoroChrom just a couple times (8 drops per treatment) which I expect to improve red coloration

I may stop Brightwell BoroChrom first..

The TMC stuff I use once a week in my tank. I dont have any issues with it. My buddy been using it long term thats why I started to use it.

High DOM & POM bother me a while and I believe it is main reason of my algae and cyano problem (PO4 < 0.03; NO3 = 0). So, I decide to reduce bio-loading in tank and very first step, send my blue tang back to LFS. She grow too big in last two years, eat a lot and poo a lot. I may get a much smaller blue tang to start with again, but that have to wait till I return from coming business trip.

you used a hook to catch your blue tang?

Same here. Most my friends use TMC + KZ w/o negative affect. However, maybe it is a result of many additives combine. Some one suspect it is bacteria unbalance...!?

That's a nice set up and the acros look good

still many rooms to improve....

It could be a bacterial imbalance...it could even be the TMC+KZ additives...if they arent being completely assimilated by the corals, then an excess would definitely buildup in your tank...this may make things pretty easy for nuisance algae/bad bacteria to overtake normal bacterial flora. I am guessing here completely, but perhaps there is some truth in it...

I would cut back or stop most of the additives, carry out quite a few 20% water changes and see if things get better.

Keep us updated.
