I am looking to add this top off to my system. I am wondering if there is a maximum distance the pump can be from the controller and sump? I want to have the pump in a closet....it would need to pump down 4 feet, then back up 4 feet so I can run it underneath the floor. Total horizontal would be about 14 feet.

Would that pose any problems?

The pump can handle it but the wiring and tubing would have to be extended and this always adds more complications. The wire can be extended with speaker wire and we do sell a roughly 30ft length of hose but the additional splice is a potential point of corrosion or bad connection and longer hoses can make it more difficult to get the pump primed. I hesitate to recommend doing this as well because the usual reason is to have a large reservoir and this is not a good idea. I would limit the water available to what is needed for 1-2 weeks. 5-10 gallons should suffice. Regard this volume as the final safety in case everything else fails, so it should never be enough to cause a major flood or wipe out a tank.

Thanks Roger :)

I am not too concerned about the splice, it would be soldered, shrink tube wrapped and taped. The reservoir being used is a 20 gallon brute, figure about 16-17 gallons total since the float valve is not at the tip pity top. It would be about 1.5 weeks of water into a 40g sump that has the ability to hold roughly 18-19 gallons more before overflowing.

I may give it a try, I just wanted to make sure there was no obvious problem from the pump or length of wiring to the pump.
