Just got these from my buddy's LFS fresh out of Timor. They've been in my tank for about 2 hours. Hopefully they are healthy, I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Wish me luck!

Best of luck to you....I had purchased 3 very nice healthy specimens for a very good price about a year ago. I bought 3 to get the good price and figured I'd sell off 2 for what I paid after I was sure they were going to make it. After a month in my tank, they still looked fantastic....I was sure they would be fine. I sold 2 of them and kept the one I liked the best.....within another month, mine started to deteriorate and it died. I was told that both of the others suffered the same fate. I am not sure how long of a survival period it would take for it to be considered safe from the malady these gorgeous corals seem to suffer, however, 2 to 3 months does not seem to be long enough. I truly hope you have better luck than mine did.

That's the thing that sucks about these guys Jeff. You think you have healthy specimen and 3 months down the road they go to hell on you.

If people keep buying them, your LFS will keep bringing them in. Everyone above seems to know that they are difficult to impossible to keep . . . why buy them?

I kept an elegance very happily for over 3 years, it was my first and only attempt. Then over the course of a few months, it slowly closed up and eventually died.

Good luck...They are beautiful animals.

I had my LFS store get them for me. The last time he got them in from Timor poopsko24 got a healthy one. They used to be one of the hardiest corals that came out of the ocean. It's unknown what changed that made them difficult now.

mhurley...
When your elegance went, was there any changes you made or any new coral additions beafore this took place?

It looks sick.Tinicals should be at least 2 inches.Keep us updated.

They were only in the tank 2 hours at the time of those pics. They look great now. Tentacles are 3+". Now it's time to play the waiting game...

Nice
Back in 92 I had one w/ pink tips , lived for 6 yrs. and dubled in size, I move to another apartment and start sinkin' on me .:(
Now they are hard to keep.It must be the equip .that we are using now, were striping everything in the water.
Good Luck

Menard, was that the last time you tried one?

Here's todays pics. The purple tip has really opened up the last few days. The pink tip hasn't changed much. I think it could open up a bit more, but it still looks ok.

Man thats frikin' awesome camera, wish mine could do that.:(

No Mike , I tried many more but they did not last like the the one I had before, some lasted 6 mo. This happens when start leaning towards SPS,bigger skimmer, carbon, water too damm clean. Back then I was just using air drivin skimmer. and DSB in one of my tanks, were the Elegance is house into together w/ my bubble coral , mushrooms, colt, and derasa clam..............PEACE

Thanks Tony and Reefworld!

Menard,

These are in a BB SPS tank. I have a BB LPS tank inline with this as well. I'm running carbon, ROWA's and a MRC MR-6R skimmer. However I have a LOT of fish, feed heavy, and my NO3 hang around 5. My water isn't perfectly clean, but the corals seem to like this more then before I had the SPS meltdown when the water was almost sterile. That table I got from you is loving it. Unfortunately I had to cut it up due to a STN incident caused by me, but that's another story in itself.

As far as the camera, it's a Sony Cybershot. I wish I could get the white balance set, but can't figure it out.

Well the pink tip started with the "sickness" signs a few days ago. Today when I came home from work he was puffed and started to spider web. I put him to rest in a bucket of ice water. :(

The purple tip is looking pretty good. :D
