a couple of algae questions

can someone i.d. this for me? the only place i have it is in the middle compartment of my sump. it's very slimy when i handle it. it's a bit of a nuisance although it's only in that one spot.

second question is regarding my chaeto. i have a huge ball of it in my sump. it has grown to be so dense that it's almost like a solid ball. it's full of pods and micro brittle stars. should i pull it apart a bit? if i trim it, i will end up just tossing it because i know absolutely no one who has a tank. the closest lfs is over an hour away and they won't give me a dime for it nor will they trade anything for it.

yeah, there are tons of them! they are SO tiny.

Looks like red grape maybe? Jeez I would kill to have some of that.

Nina, Lucky you, my Chaeto just sits there.
It is supposed to be for nutrient export.
That means throw away any excess you don't want or need.
Some do sell it, but that's up to you.

several of the loungers who are coming for spring break at marshmallow acres will be going home with a baggie of chaeto whether they want it or not!

i can't be that mean to johnike. although...i broke off a few pieces of my orange monti and mounted them to a fist-sized rock to give them a good start before he takes them home next month. i tried to get all the green bubble algae off but it keeps coming back. i'm gonna tell him it's payback for those damn palys he brought me on a coco worm tube!
