A couple of videos of Amphiprion polymnus in the wild to share

I shot a couple of clips of saddleback clownfish, Amphiprion polymnus, in the wild in Anilao in the Philippines recently that I'd like to share.

The first is a pair of clownfish tending their eggs. I managed to get some nice closeups of the eggs with my 4K camera:

The second is a school of 9 small A. polymnus fighting against a bit of current. Their anemone has closed. This was quite an unusual sight for me, and they were very shallow. Enjoy!

Thanks addictedreefer. I really don't know. Maybe because the current was strong? That little school of clownfish was really quite an unusual sight for me.

Also, does anyone know what species the anemone in the first video is? I guess Stichodactyla sp., but I don't know which one.

Thank you ocellaris123. I suspected it was but it wasn't as green and dull as most of the S. haddoni that I've seen.

Actually LesMartin it wasn't that much at all. Just exaggerated because the clownfish were so small and their movements. I've no idea why the anemone would close like that.

Thanks Rippinfrags!

Does anyone know what sort of survival rate can be expected on those eggs? To be precise, I've been asked: "how many little " Nemos" (that this mom produced) will actually survive and see the world?"

Sadly, the answer is very, very few. On the order of 1% or less.

Yeah, possibly much fewer than 1% - remember, a pair only have to replace themselves in their lifetime for a population to remain stable...:sad2:

That said - awesome videos! Again, jealous here on RC's anemone forum...:angryfire:

These are awesome! The theme of the second video is just so cool. I have never seen those clown fish. Are A. Polymnus ever available in our hobby?

Thanks!

gnatophillum, I'm using a Panasonic GH4 in a Nauticam housing. This was shot with the Olympus 12-50mm lens. I published in 1080p which allowed me to zoom some clips and crop them for more magnification.
