A day at the beach

Enjoying the Memorial Day weekend with family at Peanut Island by Palm Beach Florida. Looking over the dock and we saw this (look right next to the ladder).

Although it is tough to tell from the photo - I would guestimate that this stingray is about 6 feet across. It was huge!

Incidentally I immediately called my LFS and after getting the  I managed to catch it, and am acclimating him before putting him in my 55g tank!:fun5:
Any suggestions for what else he may be compatible with?

oops - see attached

If it's 6ft across then it has NO room in a 55g tank. Rays have their own set of captive requirements like sharks do, and as such should not be caught or purchased without doing solid research on the group of fish, and the particular species one gets first.

I whole heatedly DISAGREE. The have cartilage instead of bones so they are obviously better suited for smaller tanks.

Probably didn't even take a shoe horn to get him in there. Just a little elbow grease. I was diving in Key Largo and have seen a couple monster rays myself. Anywhere else in the Caribbean they always seem to be a meter or less. (Outside of spotted eagle rays)

Exactly. Ambition what are you thinking? Took some elbow grease getting him in the tank but he is happily eating pellets.

I do see the humor in this, but keep in mind that there are people here that are new and could take this the wrong way. Tangs in small tanks is one thing. ;)

Gotcha'
Yes trying to add some light humor (I actually have a really good LFS) and of course a 6 foot wide ray (likely about 10 feet long from heat to end of tail) cant fit in a 55g tank.

I really posted to share the incredible sight of this amazing animal seen just a few feet off shore. I am still in awe.

Lol. Jr he was there for a few minutes swimming next to the dock. I have seen smaller ones but never in the wild as large as this. Truly amazing!

How is the tusk doing Jr? Check out my other post of mine with a bellus angel. I have 2 bellus that I was hoping would pair up but it seems like one bellus has taken a liking to the tusk instead.
