A few photos I took with my coolpix 4200…

Got gorgs?
Well I have been struggling to take a decent photo with this camera for some time now. It doesn’t have a real manual focus feature and the controls for taking photos are somewhat limited. After reading this month’s photography article in reefkeeping.com I decided to give it another try. I thought these photos came out ok so I wanted to share them to see what others thought. This is my first time posting in this forum and I hope you guys like these photos…

Nicely done; love the foxface!

Thanks! I just got it from the divers den on liveaquaria.com. It was the most expensive fish I have ever bought

Those pictures are excellent- nice and sharp and well exposed- I think you did a great job. Glad to hear you read the article :)

Thanks bigtyguyy and Lpabsolute! I thought the one of the snail was cool too :) and the foxface is quickly becoming one of my favorite fishes! Well, here are two more I thought came out OK…

what MP is that camera? how'd you get such good macros with a point and shoot?

It is 4.0 MP. Here is what I did. First thing I turned on a feature call BSS. It stands for best shot selector. Basically what it does is while I hold down the button it takes a bunch of pictures and when I get done it saves the one that is the least blurry. I turned down the exposure compensation and put the camera in macro mode. Macro mode only works when I am not zoomed in so sometimes I have to crop the photo before saving it. For some photos I used the white balance and for others I didn’t. The white balance on my camera has a tendency to wash out all of the blues making the photos very yellow in some cases. The other trick I found is to only take photos perpendicular to the glass. I actually put the lens right on the glass to help me hold the camera steady. That is about it, I’m glad you like them :)

It took a while to get it but if you mess around with it enough you can get some good pictures.

Here are a few more :D
