A few pictures (Canon S5)

Just a little bored here so I figured I'd post some pictures of my stuff. Pictures were taken with a Canon S5. It's a bear trying to get the white balance right with this camera.

The S5IS is a decent megazoom point and shoot which unfortunately doesn't shoot in RAW mode. Inability to get decently accurate colors with my S5IS "forced" (read - was the excuse I needed) me to a dSLR. Yes, other point and shoots will do RAW but wouldn't have helped my macro obsession. I'd have ended up with a dSLR anyway eventually. I love my macro lens.

Shot 3 hints at the goodness that can be had and the colors look pretty close. Remember to always shoot straight through the glass. Use a faster shutterspeed when shooting fish. For your corals, try using a slower shutterspeed with a tripod if you have access to one.

with the s5, you can download the CHDK hack and shoot in raw. its a good camera, just tough with aquarium work. I love mine, but want a DSLR pretty badly, considering I have 3 somewhat older lenses from a canon eosa2 i recently acquired.
I just feel like i need to master the s5 before i upgrade. kinda busy with school to be shooting all the time.

Thanks all for the compliments and comments.

TitusvileSurfer, those 3 are my favorites as well. Added the next 2 for shats and giggles.

Reef Bass I have to agree, #3 is by far the best quality picture. I was actually stunned that it came out that way. Very accurate color to what I actually see. Eventually, I will end up with a dSLR. There's no two ways about it. BTW, taking macro shot in a 180 is not easy at all. Everything is pretty far from you relative to macro.

ibanezgfx, why wait to master something that can not teach you to use the new :D GO nuts dude, upgrade!

Keep in mind that in macro mode the S5IS performs two focus ranges depending on degree of zoom. In the first third or so of zoom from widest angle the focal distance is 11-19" and in the rest of the zoom range the focal distance is 35"-infinity. So by zooming in less one can achieve focus in closer objects. For objects 19.01" - 34.99" I suggest you back up slightly from your subject so you are at least 35" away.
