Im getting closer to having nearly everything i need for my saltwater reef and i have a few question that id like answered.

I purchased the "Sunlight Supply Lumen Max Elite" along with a radium bulb 250W, 20K, and a M80 ballast, and I also bought the glass shield for the reflector....my question is can I use the glass to help keep the light bulb safe from any splashing? or does this effect the light output in any way?

Im also in the process of getting a stand built for my tank, The room its going in is 7' 3" in height , My tank is 2' 6" in height and the stand Id like to have 3' in height, the light fixture is 6" so total space used so far is 6 feet.....just want to make sure is 1' 3" good enough of a space to have when playing around with height of my fixture? (which will be suspended from the ceiling)

Thanks for the help in advance! :hmm5:

Why don't you give us your tanks other dimensions. That will give us some kind of metrics to go by as far as the height issue. Also let us know what type of livestock you want to keep.

Thats a deep tank. You will probably want the light fixture about 10 -14" awl The glass Is important it filters out harmfull UV according to manufactures.

I was under the impression that uv glass is only required for HQI bulbs. The mogul based, single ended, bulbs are constructed with uv shielded glass.

You are right and Mark is wrong, I think. But then the OP could do a little research and find out from a manufacturer and know for sure.
