A few questions about H fuscus.

I have a 46 gal bow front macroalgae tank. The tank has been running for 7 months at 75 degrees. It is drilled for a gl*******s overflow and the return is about 600gph. I also have a koralia 1050 and maxi jet 1200 for additional flow. I just acquired 2 juvenile ORA tank bred H fuscus yesterday. They look great and are both moving throughout the tank well. The macro is filling in nicely so there is plenty of hitches. Should I cut down on flow? I could eliminate the koralia if so. Also, I am feeding PE mysis twice a day. Is this sufficient, too much, or too little? I kill the koralia during feeding and the seahorses are actively seeking out the PE mysis. They are handling the size really well and I can't believe how much they eat. Any other advise for me?

just in the learning stages myself so sorry I cannot answer. But the tank looks very nice. can I ask what you're using for lighting?

This tank and all equipment came from my old mixed reef. I upgraded a few years ago and had everything sitting in my basement so I decided to put it to use. Light is an Aquatinic TX5. I added sargassum at first that went sexual. As you can see it is taking over. I hand prune it weekly. I heard that it will eventually run its course and that it isn't really vey aquarium hardy, it must like my tank. It's kinda ugly but this tank is an experiment so it should be fun to see it progress. I also had a nice variety of red macro but the turbo snails ate it really quickly.

As long as you have areas of low, medium and high flow that all have hitches for them to chose where they wish to be at any given time, and as long as there are no blasts that can force them against something to damage them, and as long as any intakes are protected, you should be good to go.
Personally, I think the PE mysis is too "loaded" with nutrient for a steady diet of it, and prefer to use the basic Hikari mysis with the PE used maybe once or twice a week.

Rayjay, thanks for your response. What do you mean by too "loaded"? I assumed that with the short gut of the seahorse the PE would be more beneficial nutrient wise. Are you referring to a nutrient issue in regards to water quality? Or nutritionally? as far as the flow goes, I think it's good. Intakes are covered and the flow is blowing across the tank length wise, nothing for them to be pushed against. I was more worried about effort expended while swimming and exhaustion I guess. thanks.

FWIW, PE mysids are a FW species, while Hikari uses a SW species. IIRC, are pretty high in fat content to be fed as an exclusive staple.

They look like H. kuda to me. Wasn't aware of any H. fuscus being available stateside.

As long as the seahorses can move about the tank freely, let it flow. Higher flow tanks are typically healthier than low flow tanks.

For the feeding, we feed as much as they will eat. I generally figure between a 1/2 to 1 cube of mysis per feeding. They can actually do this several times a day.

On the ORA website, they only list erectus, kuda and reidi availability on the seahorse page

I could have sworn that the owner of my LFS said they were fuscus, mabye I am mistaken. He has a good relationship with ORA, they even named a coral after him so mabye he is getting something that is not widely distributed. This is merely speculation on my part though. I will clarify with him and update you.
