A Few Things Just Added To The Reef

This doesn't look like a pleasant place to be.

Think I'll name this urchin "Butterface". One of gods creatures that the backside is much more appealing than the front.

A new zoa frag. I thought that it was an interesting combination.

This one really glows under 14K's

Finally, this has started to show some nice growth.

Tough call. The first and second are amazing. Very nice shots. Are you using a 105VR for the shots?

Nikon D-100 with a Sigma 105mm. SB-800 speedlight w/diffuser.

I shoot a D1X and need a macro. Right now I'm pricing D200's. D2X way too much cash.
Wife won't let me get a 105VR just yet, even tried talking her into the Sigma. I keep telling her it would be great for her portrait work, and not just for tank shots.

You're right, it is a nice lens for portriat work.

I got to take both (VR and Sigma) home for the weekend. Shot bunches with both and just could not see the value of spending twice as much.

This was even true on printed product. Printed 8x10's from each lens and the difference just wasn't there.

Only thing I liked much better on the Nikkor was the AF. It was much quicker and quiet. But in conclusion, when doing macro work or portrait for that matter fast auto focus isn't that big of an issue.

Get the D-200.... You will love it. I like it better in some regards than the 2X

Thanks for the tip. I've not been able to check out 8X10's, the largest was 5X7's on both. For macro shots, I think it would be difficult without a tripod anyway so don't need VR for that. For the usual "look at that" snap and shoot, the VR would be good.

I agree on the AF speed issue. It would be nice for moving targets like fish, but corals? Tripod shot. The noise of the motor is not an issue for me.

Wife uses a D2X and D200 for her "day job". For the "side job" only a D1X. She's been playing the odds too long to not have a back up. More than likely get the D200 for primary and the 'ol D1X will be back up (and my play camera).

I've been wanting to get a 105 and I really, really want the Nikon 70-200VR. The wife is using rational thinking and saying the 70-200 is not needed. I really don't like, or use rational thinking. I want the lens for great shots of kiddo's ball games. She seems to have a problem with the cost of a lens that won't pay for itself. Some people.....

And wife agrees with the D200 vs. D2X, we've argued about it. I like the D2X due to features like the D1X (the main one being a shutter release on the side). Price, weight, and they have had some problems with the D2X colors at her work. Then I get to hear that she is the one who has to take photo's, not me. Some people I tell ya.
