A 34' tank xroads??????????????????????????
Holy shibby - a 380 gallon overflow :eek1: !! Can't wait to see this project in action. I guess you'll have to stagger and double the plywood for the back and bottom and have some sort of external brace like this:

WOW! Who's tank is that? Is it your's? I hate to say it on Seans thread but, you got any more pics of that monstrosity?
Well, I hope all is well with Sean, its been a while since he's had an update.

No, the tank isn't mine. This tank was built to raise a freshwater species "Hydrocynus goliath". Otherwise known as the goliath tiger fish. The tank is 10 ft X 4 ft X 3 ft (LXWXH) ~ 850 - 900 gallons.

I have been following this thread from the beginning and am dying to see the end result. I know he said this was the busy season due to breading and all. I hope that is all that is keeping the updates away and hope to see and read more soon.

I love the tank and has given me a lot of inspiration and education. Much I hope to use on the next tank upgrade.

I remember seeing this one months ago. I am glad to see the thread has resurfaced. Great project. Can someone please tell me what the advantage is to making a tank like this rather that buying a glass or acrylic?

Chris

Chris,

That is an easy question to answer, cost and easy of manufacturing. Most people can cut wood pretty easy and make the tank the way the want, but few people can cut glass easly. Plus the wood is less expensive than the glass.

As long as the sealing it done well, you can get decades out of tanks like this. the only thing that will cause it to fail is if water leaks into the plywood, or the viewing panel comes loose (which will not happen with water in the tank).

Just spent three hours reading this thing. Getting ready to move into a new house and have the perfect spot to build something similar. Can't wait to get started.
