no, that was my short-hand for "calcium reactor." Most people choosing to use either a Ca Rx or to dose a 2-part supplement for maintaining Calcium, Alkalinity, and Magnesium.

My Reef Crystals has been coming in at:
Ca=375
Mg=990.
Just ordered Tropic Marin Pro Reef from Saltycritters, but won't be able to continue this, shipping is just too high.

I have not seen any info on Sybon salt.
Gdubb, I'm not sure there is a problem there. Maybe a little test noise.
Inj, I'll have to agree with Randy in that you may not be mixing to 35 ppt or 1.0264 They both seem equally low. When you mix at a higher salinity, you get more cal, alk and mag in your mix.![]()
The same way i have been for 14 years,, adding salt to a container of RO/DI water, precipitates before getting to reef levels, i am not going over 1.026 then back.Originally posted by DheereCrossing
Are you adding water to salt or salt to water? You should have your fresh water ready and add salt to it to keep it from precipitating.
I calibrated with 35ppt calibration solution, 0 tds Ro/di is the water used for the mix, well there is a lot of impuritiesOriginally posted by bertoni
The exact point at which precipitation occurs will vary depending on the temperature of the water, the salt being used, and probably a few other factors. I'm not sure whether you're seeing precipitation or maybe just some impurities.
The alkalinity number you posted seems a bit low for Oceanic. How was the refractometer calibrated? RO/DI water doesn't always work well.
Nothing added, and the brown slime and AS's lack of a good explanation and recent inconsistent batches is why i tried the switchOriginally posted by Rueg
I have had a good layer of brown covering my salt mixing container with reef crystals. Haven't for a while now.
I added a couple of teaspoons of pH buffer to the saltwater I was mixing up once and it made the saltwater precipitate big time. By chance add any buffer?
