Just want to know, is there anything as exciting as when you catch that pesky fish out of your reef? Well, I HAD one of those. A yellow reef chromis that was supposed to be so passive, basically had taken over my reef. This guy was beating up fish 10 times his size. The problem was that he was VERY elusive to try and catch. I had been working on it on and off for about 4 weeks now. I even bought a trap, which all it caught was a few of my peppermint shrimp.
So last night, I set out to get him once and for all. I have about 6 different fish nets. I used the smaller nets to cover all his favorite escape routes into the reef. One end of the reef is basically open sand with just a few rocks, and the plan was to catch him down there. Keep in mind, this is a 150 RR, so it is very deep. I have to stand on a step ladder to reach into it.
I used the 3 biggest nets to set up sort of a barrier between the open area and the reef, then I fed the fish in the open area. Sure enough, the little devil darted right in to get his food, and I stuffed the biggest net between him and the reef. He took refuge under the 2 rocks on that end. I then took one of the smaller nets and coaxed him out. At this point, he darted out and right into one of the other nets, which I grabbed and pulled out of the reef shouting "I got you, you little bastard". At this point, my wife comes running in from the other room because she thought I got hurt. Then she scolded me because I was not.... very funny.
Well, the little devil has taken up residence in my sump. I did not have the heart to flush him, I am really a big softy. He will never go back in my reef. If anybody has a tank with just Damsels and wants him, let me know.
As for the reef, my tangs all looked healthier and happier almost immediately. I have a golden angel that has cowered in a corner for the 3 weeks since I have gotten him that is now all over the reef, eating algae of the rocks. I am so happy now!!!
Just goes to show what one bad fish can do!
