A great refugium lightbulb, IMHO!

A month ago you could get 1 for 8 or 2 for 15 Guess they found out that you can use them for aquariums. Thay fit in a standard 110 household light fixture

It is still too much. These are simply 6500K bulbs. Thicker than a PC bulb, I don't see the benefit personally. And still more expensive than a PC bulb.... Well, it is 105w per bulb. I guess two over a 30g would be okay, if you liked that color spectrum. I only had 3x 55w Power Compacts (50% actinic, 50% daylight) and my tank did great for years.

here it is again, I ordered mine several weeks ago, the correct bulb for 10 bucks and free shipping.

IF ANYONE WANTS TO KNOW HOW TO ORDER THE TCP 19/85W BULB FOR 9.99 EASILY THEN LISTEN UP!!

ok,

step 1: Call the home depot supply number 1-800-431-3000

step 2: Ask for the special order department, the bulb can only be special ordered.

step 3: the part # for the bulb is 99570, this is for the 19w 5100k par 38 TCP bulb, I assume the 16w is also available, but you will have to ask them to look up its part number

I had to create a special order account, it was free and fast to set up, also the bulb is only special order so it can't be ordered online through the HD supply catalog. Shipping was free and it should take 6 to 10 days.

This is the cheapest place I have found to order the correct 5100k bulb!

The current price on this bulb is $13 PLUS shipping of ~$5. It seems this is no longer a very good deal. It also has a very long delay in shipping ~2weeks until delivery. I suggest trying else where.

Is there anyone who stocks this thing?? I really dont want to pay $20 to buy a bulb that cost $12 (19w version). Hell I can buy a T5 bulb for that much lol

I placed my order this morning, they first quoted me 11.99 for the bulb I told them that last month I was quoted only 9.99 so she gave it to me for 10.67 I ordered 2 and was charged $23 and change no shipping charge.

my HD has it..

my HD has it..

my home depot has this bulb stocked, no need to order.... around $10.. nine and change...same SKU as Melev described... maybe others will start carrying them as well.

ghever, not to argue, but you'd need to compare with what is on my webpage, not the original SKU from last year.

Or just look at the bulb once it is plugged in. If yellow, it is 2700K; if white, it is 5100K.

here is my situation. i have 2 125's connected to a common sump. one of the 125's is a frag tank. I am going to convert the frag tank to a refugium. so what kind of lighting should i use for the fuge. It will be lit 24 hours a day and of course heat/cost of lighting is a factor. The tank is located in my fish/laundary room so it cannot get too hot.

You could use 3 or 4 of these bulbs over your 125, and each bulb uses 19w. Heat won't be a factor. However, the depth of the refugium would be something to consider, as they bulbs aren't that great at penetrating the water if it is very tall. If the water is 12" high, it should work great.

Right. Are you planning a DSB (4" to 6" tall), and are you planning to run the tank full or maybe more like 50% full? These types of considerations help determine what light you might need.

If you plan the 24" depth, the Lights of America 300w fixtures would be better. And at 6', you would need 3 of those, assuming you can find them at your Home Depot. The output is 300w, but the bulb uses 75w each, I think....

I probably will run a DSB but have not decided yet and the tank will be full it is a RR tank and shares the same sump as my other tank. Does anyone have a link to these bulbs. I dont think these are the same as this original thread.

thanks

arguing is fine ;)

Is this the webpage you are referring to? The bulb at the top of this page on the left.. is that not the bulb? That is same packaging, same everything as bulb I bought...you are telling me even if it is same packaging and same sku as the on pictured on this page, i might not have right bulb?

Bryan, ghever posted the link to the page.

ghever, you need to scroll down the page to read the updated information, which indicates the packaging is different and the spectrum changed.

i was talking about the 300 watt bulbs. I went to lights of america website but i did not see them

Ah, my mistake. There must be hundreds of threads about LOA here on RC, if not thousands. Googling it might be easier, since you aren't an RC Premium Member.

They don't sell them here in Texas, so I only know what I read about them. They should use lower wattage, but the output of the compact fluorescent should be 300w IIRC.

Do you think this would be a good light for a coral QT tank? I just set up a small QT tank for corals and don't want to spend a lot of money on a lighting fixture. I plan on keeping the corals in the QT for a week or two. Will this work?

TIA -

Maaaaaaaaybe. If the water was very shallow, it might tide them over. But I'd suggest T5s instead.
