A great refugium lightbulb, IMHO!

Well looking around I found this place that sells many wattage at 5100k for a good price https://www.buylighting.com/store/c...F036F0D69068F0582080669017F036F0D67068C058408 best price I could find where you dont have to buy a bulk amount. Prob order 4 for myself in the next couple days. If anyone in the south of chicago area (Joliet) wants to get a couple to help defray the shipping cost let me know. Well back to work for me I may check Lowes, Home Depot, Menards tonight once more to see if what they have now that I have a better idea of what to look for.

On the package, there is a phone number. Call them up with the model #, and ask them "what is this bulb's Kelvin rating?" I'm recommending a 5100K bulb. 2700K and 6500K work, but the 5100K worked better for me.

The bulb in question is 3000K. I bought a few today anyway just to see how they work out. I will also be ordering the 5100K but these will hold me over.

Dang, I just ordered 4 and missed your post. I have a few reefing buddies in Joy-Let / Plainfield.

I call the 1-800 number. The new package is a different bulb rated at 27K

That doesn't make sense, why are they using the same model number for diffent kelvins?

I dunno either, but I called them from HD this morning and gave them the item #. They told me the color temp was 3000K.

Well I got a 4-pack of the new-packaging HD bulbs (which I am told are clearance). $5. Funny thing is they were still selling the single bulbs for $9.97 and the 2-packs for $16+

I know they are the 27K version, but for 4 for $5 it will hold me until the new 51Ks come (which, it turns out, is tomorrow, so who knows what I'll do with these?!?)

When to replace bulb?

When to replace bulb?

I have been using the 5100 for about 6 months is this about the usefull life of the bulbs (running it 24/7)??

Thank you, I will go ahead and change the bulb out. I have noticed the Cheato growth has slowed over the last month or so.

Take a look at the picture of the light that I have over my fuge. I believe this light at some point was suggested in this thread. I have a 55 gal tank converted to a sump and fuge. The fuge section is about 20 gal. I started out with the bulb that Melev suggested and I didn't get much of a result from it. It is a little more expensive than Melev's bulb, around $40, but I cannot believe how fast the Chaeto is growing. I started out with a small clump of Chaeto and within 3 weeks the whole 20 gal area is now overflowing. Just my .02! Oh, yeah probably would help if I told you where I got it from, good old Home Depot. They also sell the replacement bulbs. I believe they are around $14.

Attached is the link for the light........

Admittedly I have not read this entire post. I did however go to HD and try to order the 51K bulb that Melev showed on the first page of the thread (before the split).

My local HD (NC) could not order the bulb. Said they could not special order in this market. They suggested I go to the HD Supply website and order it there. That worked and if anyone is interested you can call them at 1-800-431-3003. This is the special order number. Don't go to the website because the special order items are not there. Give them the item number S2575. This is the 19W (75w) par 38 51k bulb. It is $12.14 shipped and takes about 15 days.

Like I said I didn't read the whole thread so if this has been covered before I am sorry for being redundant.

Hope this helps.

Steve

I have switched to a different bulb, I'm using this 6500k fixture, but mounted the bulb remotely in a lumenarc reflector without any glass or plastic lens, I have been running it about 14 hours a night reverse from my tank lighting, my cheato is really growing now, they are about $40 at Home Depot, but some Costcos have them real cheap, I found mine on ebay for $12, its the best fuge light I've tried so far.
