so i have about a 100lbs of rock sitting in a 20g long tank with about a cup of bleach and ro water. when i was putting the rock in i notices some hair algea? on the rock. should i have scrubbed it off first before bleaching it?

will the bleach turn my rocks white?<it would be cool if it did>

should i toss in a powerhead or heater while it's bleaching?

its gonna turn it really white and gonna kill all bacteria , algea and just about everything thaty made it live but on the up side when your done you will have sterile pest free rock

the wet rocks were sitting in air tight 5g buckets for a few weeks so theres all kinds of fuzzy stuff on it prior to bleaching

yeah scrub em good after bleaching then let em dry in the sun for a few days then scrub em again and start cooking them in saltwater

cooking in saltwater means, powerhead and heater with no light? set the heater at higher temp or normal temp of 79-82

Why cook them after the bleach and dry? Does it help remove the decay deep in the rock?

Cveverly... Drying help eveporate off the bleach...cooking after bleaching is to cycle off the dead and decaying matter so it wont spike in your tank when you use it .. basicly your cycling the dead rock ...towards the end of the cooking process i usually add a good live piece to seed the rest of the dead rock to bring it back to life so to speak ..

frost you don't need a heater to kill live rock. Just bleach and water, rinse, rinse , rinse, let it set up and dry. Scrub and rinse and your good to go.
Bleach kills your rock, anything in your rock or on your rock. This is not the same as "cooking rock" and cooking your rock after this will do absolutely zip.

Oh yeah, rinse your rock good after your done

+1, thats what I did. Bleach, rinse, rinse, rinse, dry out and another rinse for good measure. Added into system with zero issues.

I would be worried of not getting all of the bleach out of the rock, doesn't it get into the rock deep like a sponge. You know how hard a sponge is to get clean. I have a couple of rocks that I wanted to clean up but was affraid of not getting it all out.

Once it is dry all the bleach is gone, bone dry = no bleach
