Now that I know the exact dimensions of the tank, I've started finishing up the trim on the top of the stand. Here are a few updated pics:

Finally got all the woodworking part finished. Just need to stain it and get the styrofoam sheet to put under the tank.

let me know the dimensions you need for room for your skimmer. then we can figure out the return and refuge dimensions. it was 3/8' acrylic right?

yeah its 3/8". i'm thinking it will be 48" x 20" footprint but I'll have to measure again to make sure and measure the skimmer size as well. I'm still thinking I may do the center return that is L-shaped to run an external pump out of the end similar to this "model G modified" on Melevs site:

The color on the oak pieces I used for the columns and trim turned out a bit lighter than the oak plywood skin. I think I may try putting a second coat of stain on those parts to see if they will darken up to match the plywood. Any other suggestions?

I'm no expert, but a second coat sounds good. Looks great already.

Josh,

If you have some scrap try the 2 coats on that first. If it still isn't close, get some dark tint and mix. Use the scrap and add a little tint at a time until you get the right results.

The last option is try (with scrap first) putting a few coats of clear poly on. that has a tendency to blend the colors and let them come closer together.

Thanks andywe. I am planning on putting a couple coats of poly on anyway. I'll try getting the stain colors closer with a couple scrap pieces first though. Good idea

Dang I could have helped, They sell a pre stain sealer that makes stain come out the same on different types of wood. But It must be applied first b4 the stain, Used It on my stand and It worked great. Can't remember the name they should know at the home center. Maybe you can still fix It?
